A very different take on the A/B/O concept. You can tell how much thought has gone into how the sudden emergence of A/B/O traits would change a society that values consent and autonomy. Both Azriel and Eris are characterized beautifully, and I love all the little details. An absolutely wonderful story.

    Summary

This was just Hakoda’s luck, on the run with three children he’d vowed to himself to take to safety—wherever that may be—and they just happened to run into the Dragon of the West.

Unsheathing the knife—his only weapon, of course he had nothing but a measly knife while facing the Dragon of the West—Hakoda stepped forward to stand between the children and the enemy. Like he should have when they’d come to the South Pole and threatened his family.

Never give up without a fight. Not that he needed the blade’s inscription to tell him that.

After escaping from the Western Air Temple, Hakoda is lost in a forest with three Earth Kingdom kids. Thirsty, tired, and struggling to cope with the effects of his prison stay, the last thing he needs is getting kidnapped by an ancient secret society.

But Iroh’s plans to have the Avatar kill the Fire Lord are outrageous, and Hakoda takes issue. Now he has to put up with his mother’s ex and a gloomy firebender while parenting three wayward children, rescuing his crew from prison, and defeating Ozai. Which would be enough to deal with even if the wounds of the past didn’t have a habit of bleeding into the present.

Hakoda-centric, really well written. All the kids are written really on-spot. Some Hakoda-whump and lots of misunderstandings in the beginning. Love the Hakoda-Piandao-interactions.

… If only he weren’t so bad at being good.

Very interesting take on the Western Air Temple storyline. With some Boiling Rock thrown in, and more on-screen time for Haru, Teo and The Duke than in most other stories.

A tale of siblings, no major romance. Lots of Water Tribe and Dad-Hakoda.
