Rumi touched her fingers to her ribs. She could feel the heat radiating from her skin, even through her clothes. A distant, miserable part of her said, this is going to hurt.
She pushed her fingers down.
The rib shifted.
The thing about telling one very big lie is that it requires a foundation of hundreds of smaller lies to hold it up, lies such as "I'm fine," and "nothing's broken," and "it doesn't hurt."
Rumi finds this out the hard way.

“No!”
“You did! Mira said ‘babe’ and you answered!”
Rumi looked to Mira for help. She found none.
“I was talking to Zoey, but uh. I can call you babe too, if you want.” she drawled. Rumi groaned and buried her head in her arms. Zoey’s laughs died down, her attention now intensely focused on Rumi’s form.
“I was gonna say I wanna call her honey ‘cos she’s so sweet, but maybe I should call her glowstick?”
Zoey and Mira make a discovery about Rumi. Things spiral from there.

Summary
Rumi’s tone is even when she says “Mira, you need to tell us what happened.”
Mira pushes herself back to her feet and takes a step towards her. Rumi doesn’t flinch. She wishes she’d flinch. Mira knows she’s a wildfire. She’ll always leave ashes in her wake, even if she doesn’t want to. It’s just her nature.
So that’s why she bites back with “Oh, fuck off! Like you’ve ever talked to us!” and as soon as it’s out of her mouth she feels like she’s going to be sick.
Sometimes the worst part about being angry is learning that people still love you afterwards.
