“Would you fire me?” Eddie follows up, because now he’s burning with desire to know. “If you were captain and I pulled something like that?”
“I would never fire you.”
“Why not?” Eddie folds his arms and quirks an eyebrow. “What about the chain of comm—”
“If you say chain of command, I will crash the car,” Buck interjects.
908 coda. Eddie stops keeping some secrets of his own, he and Buck talk, and Eddie discovers that fear may very well be the thief of joy.

Buck always prided himself on being like Maddie. She raised him, after all. He had inherited from her generosity and kindness, as well as self-sufficiency and awareness.
But he was starting to think he’d inherited a bit more than just that.Bookmarked by Kitzer

Summary
"Someone; Chim maybe or even Hen, raised their glass and said, “Okay, okay, wait, I have a question. Who do we think is the hottest person on the team?”
Eddie scoffed and took a sip of the drink in front of him, not even sure if it was his or not. “What are we? High schoolers?”"Or, it was supposed to be a silly bar game, but then Buck opened his big mouth and said Eddie’s name. Now Eddie can’t stop replaying it, can’t stop thinking about it. And definitely can’t stop realizing just how in love with his best friend he might be.

Summary
“Plus, Buck doesn’t like flying, so… you know.” Eddie shuffled on his feet a little.
Roxie and Taylor shared a look, again. What was with that? It reminded Eddie of him and Buck. They must just be best friends, he figured.
Taylor cleared her throat. “You drove all that way… because your partner doesn’t like flying?”
Eddie’s breath hitched, and he could feel the way Buck tensed up next to him. “No- we’re not- no- we’re best friends.”
Or.
At the Nashville firefighter games, Taylor and Roxie gain immediate insight into Buck and Eddie's dynamic, and Eddie has some long overdue realisations.

“I know, ‘The Trials and Tribulations of Evan Buckley: A Tragedy in 97 Acts. Now featuring a special 98th titled: Can’t get over his fucking ex, one who claims, and others agree, that said Evan Buckley is unlovable,’” Buck spits.
“Dios,” Eddie sighs, exasperated. “Buck, no, you know that's not true.” He gets up off his swing and crouches in front of Buck. He puts his hand on the side of Buck’s face in an attempt to make him look up, but it doesn’t work.
“Buck, Evan, look at me, please.” Buck finally looks up, tears running down his cheeks...

Summary
"He’d kissed Eddie slow and soft when the house was quiet, whispered something stupid that made Eddie laugh until he had to muffle it against Buck’s shoulder. They'd gone to bed together, woken up to golden light slicing through the blinds, with Buck's body wrapped around his, and Eddie's nose tickled by soft, honey colored curls."
Or, Eddie thought keeping their new relationship a secret was the smart move...just until he and Buck figured it out. But it’s a lot harder to stay quiet when everyone keeps trying to set Buck up and strangers won’t stop flirting with him.

Summary
Eddie answers on the third ring. “Buck?” His voice is rough with sleep, low and gravelly. “Do you know what time it is?”
Buck tries to lift his phone to his mouth, but the motion of his shoulder curling forward shifts his wing again, the tip of one brushing against the sheets. They’re huge. Bigger than he can process. He still can’t make himself look.
The only thing that escapes him is a soft, pained whimper.
Eddie suddenly seems a lot less tired. His voice sharpens instantly. “What’s going on? Are you hurt?”
Another whine tears from Buck as the pain flares, muscles along the top of the wings tensing, fluttering behind him. He can see their span now, crowding the edges of his vision—and somehow, it feels like they’re still growing.
“E-Eddie,” he chokes out. “I-I don’t know. There’s so much blood.”
OR Buck wakes up with wings tearing themselves out of him. Eddie soothes the pain.

Summary
It starts with a headache.
It starts with a headache. And it ends as he falls to the ground, lock jawed, the world fading away.
. . .
Look.
Buck knows as well as anyone the dangers of repeated concussions. He was a college football player; he’s followed the development of the concussion stories as they’ve come out. And yeah, between his childhood recklessness (which has bled into adult recklessness), a few workplace incidents including a notable day with a hoarder house and a bowling ball, and his general affinity for being caught in unfortunate positions, he figures he’s had his fair share of concussions. But they’ve never really been in such close succession that he’s worried about them.
Not really.

“Ok, I wanna tell you a story…a scary one.”
Eddie raised a brow, not looking amused in the slightest.
“And we had to come all the way out here for you to tell it why?”
“Because babe, this totally sets the scene. I mean, isn’t this way cooler than sitting at home?”
Eddie didn’t think so, but he didn’t want to take away Buck’s excitement.
“Fine, but hurry up before I freeze my ass off, or turn into a pumpkin or something.”
Buck gave him a sly grin, one that honestly creeped Eddie out a little.
“You don’t wanna end up like the main star of our story Eds, trust me.”
Eddie had no idea what that meant, but he had a feeling he was about to find out.

Albert had tried, May had tried, Athena had tried, Maddie had tried. And he still refused to say. Claiming he was ‘fine’, as if they couldn't see him wasting away right in front of them. As if they would look away and let him self-destruct like he expected them to. As if they weren’t family.

Summary
It was 3 a.m. when Eddie felt the mattress dip. His senses sharpened as he blinked awake, the room dimly lit by the soft glow of the moon filtering through the curtains. His eyes adjusted to the sight of Buck, who was silently climbing into bed beside him, already undressed down to a pair of shorts. Buck hadn’t said a word. Eddie sat up slightly, confused, still trying to shake off the remnants of sleep.
“Buck?” His voice was hoarse, laced with concern as he squinted through the darkness. “What are you doing here?”
For a moment, Buck didn’t respond. He just lay there, staring up at the ceiling, breathing too quickly for someone who was supposed to be calm.

Summary
“You let me hurt you,” he repeated softly. Buck tilted his head in that confused puppy way of his but Eddie couldn’t feel his usual fondness for the gesture. “Ana,” he forced himself to say. Just one word, all the explanation needed for the confusion to be erased from his face. Eddie watched Buck’s face shut down into a neutral mask. Eddie had seen that face aimed at him so many times over the past few months and somehow had never noticed. Never realised what it meant.
