Summary
“How fares your head, Ser Duncan?”
Duncan.
His lips moved but Dunk did not speak it. The name felt familiar to mouth yet his stomach turned.
“It barely throbs.” He should tell him. Dunk knew he should tell him.
The King frowned. He reached out. His fingers had had more than one ring gracing them. When the King touched him, it was gently. His finger brushed across Dunk’s temple. “Words are wind with you.”
The King’s touch was soft. His words were cutting.
Dunk tried to shallow. His mouth was too dry. His eyebrows drew close to one and another. “What?”
“Your injury is graver than you care to admit.” The King spoke softly but his words were still sharp. He pulled back from touching Dunk. Dunk fought the urge to reach out and grasp his finger. It was not proper.
Dunk stared. He wondered how the King knew that. “How-“
The King cut him off. “Why would I give away such information when you will learn from it?”
Dunk narrowed his eyes. “You make it sound like I am your enemy.”
Dunk did not know much but he knew the King was not that. Surely, if the King was his enemy, he would know it in his bones even if his mind could not remember?
