"Celine let her words hang in the air, observing how the girls processed them. Rumi, ever caring and empathetic of those around her (often to her own detriment) was visibly distressed; worrying her lip and fiddling with the hem of her hoodie as she held back tears. Mira, however guarded and determined to present herself devoid of all emotion as she was, appeared to be equally as upset. The twitch in her jaw told Celine everything she needed to know. There was no way in hell Mira would let anything else hurt Zoey- and they hadn’t even met yet."

Summary
Rumi giggled softly, she was sill scared, but something about these two girls felt genuine: safe. For some reason (against her natural instinct), she felt as though she could trust them. She wanted to trust them.
“So?” Zoey asked, face softening once again, “What do you say?”
Rumi considered momentarily, glancing between Mira and Zoey, still expecting to find a falter in their display of kindness, a reason to run and escape: danger. Instead, however, she couldn’t find one. Only the sparkle in the eyes of the girl with dark curls, practically bouncing with the want to help her. And the soft, yet firm reassurance painted on the face of the pink haired girl: equally as desperate to help.
