Sadly, Mike wasn't the only one with eyes in that room,
He wasn't the only who could admire the way the light caught Will's sun-kissed skin, making it glow like a summer's day. The way his mesmerizing hazel eyes shimmered, flecked with green and gold, drawing you in with their magic. The way his chiseled square jaw clenched when he was trying not to burst out laughing, the way his perfectly pointed nose scrunched up when he ended up doing so. The delicate pink blush that painted his cheeks and extended to his ears, a telltale sign of his pleasure.
He was beautiful.
And it grated on Mike's nerves.
Because, his Will was dancing with someone else.

Summary
Romantic relationships always lead to intimacy. And when you're exploring it and its borders with your beloved person, it becomes even better. However, it is also better for intimacy to stay private. Unfortunately, it is not Mike's and Will's case.
Will's parents accidentally walk on them during very much innocent making out, which is bad for two reasons.
First, they didn't come out to them yet.
Second, now there are rules, predictably coming mostly from Hopper. And after The Talk, they're even more scared to go further.
Mike doesn't want to follow the rules. Eventually, they'll face it, and he wants to be ready, both for Will and himself. Especially for Will.
So, he does the research. And then, well, uses theory in practice.

Mike returns, hands patting at curls that were now carefully parted to the right and slicked down at the sides.
Will looks at him with his mouth agape in complete and utter horror, rubbing his eyes and doing a double-take because there’s no way this is real.
I need to fix this before the Party sees. They’ll never let him live this down.
And with that, Will approaches Mike, who's now sitting on the edge of his bed and tying his shoes. He steps between Mike’s open knees, holding the sides of his face to shift his gaze from his dirty sneakers and up into Will’s eyes.
(OR: Will hates Mike’s new haircut. Every time Mike tries to style his hair, Will purposely finds a way to mess it up, more often than not in unorthodox ways. But is Mike really as oblivious as Will thinks he is, or does Mike keep styling his hair this way for a reason?)
(OR: 5 times Will messes up Mike’s greasy side part and 1 time Mike retaliates.)

“You should’ve seen the way you ran in here, man. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you move so fast.” His roommate takes a long pull of the joint dangling in his fingers. “You’re fuckin’ whipped, bro.”
Mike knows he looks stupid, unable to control the way his eyebrows furrow and his lips curl in complete confusion. Then his roommate rolls his eyes and makes a gesture like he’s cracking a whip, complete with sound effect. His cheeks heat up, the realization suddenly dawning on him.
He thinks Mike was on the phone to his girlfriend.
He thinks Mike has a girlfriend.
He thinks that Will is Mike’s girlfriend.
Everyone at college thinks Mike has a girlfriend. There's just one problem. The 'girlfriend' in question is Will Byers. Mike's best friend. Platonic with a capital P. He's so screwed.

Mike barks a laugh. “I’m, unfortunately, requesting your companionship Thursday night to see Child’s Play 2 with Will and I.”
She sends him a look of bewilderment. “How did I get dragged into your date with Will?”
“Y’know, it’s really great that I can count on such discretion from you and Lucas. Super awesome that you don’t tell each other everything.” Max ignores him and he continues on. “Well, I tried my best, but he kind of looked at me all-dumbfounded and wasn’t saying anything, so I panicked.”
“Well, duh. He’s liked you since, like, birth. Did you even give him enough time to answer?”
“Of course I gave him enough time to answer.” Mike grits out, voice tight. “I know how to have a fucking conversation with someone, Maxine.”
Mike Wheeler can’t pick a major to save his life, is fighting for said life in the worst class ever (Astronomy 101), and is desperately trying to romance the best person in his life.
Enter: Will Byers, his advanced concepts in painting final project, and his pretty eyelashes.

“Me too.” Then, a little bashful: “I got you something.”
Will’s face hurt from trying not to smile like an idiot. “Really?”
“Guys,” Lucas cut in, exasperated. “Get your own channel if you’re going to flirt.”
Mike confesses his love in subtle ways at the end of the world. It takes a minute for Will to catch up.

Summary
I wrote this at like 3:00am based on a dream I had. So.
.Mike was touchy, it was just in his nature.
Maybe that's why, when Mike reached out, hands cupping his own, leaning in close, a murmur of “I miss you, Will. I miss us,” all Will did was squeeze back, the way he always had.
It started off the same as always, something unintentional that Will could brush off, accident touches that slowly grew into something friendly, platonic, normal. The occasional nudge of an elbow to his side, a long look and a hand reaching out to grip his shoulder. Simple. Friendly.
But now?
Now Mike couldn't seem to be able to keep his hands off of him.
It was driving Will crazy.
