The kisses continued their slow, deliberate descent. From the collarbone, to the soft skin just above the swell of her chest, pushing gently against the fabric of her smock. Rapunzel’s entire body hummed with a desperate, aching need. Her hands had finally given up their fight to hold the brush; it clattered softly to the floor, forgotten, the tiny dab of periwinkle still adorning its tip.
Responsibility, deadlines, royal duties – they all evaporated like morning mist under the searing heat of Cassandra’s touch. There was only this, only them, only the intoxicating dance of skin on skin, of breath mingling, of a love so deep it consumed everything else.
Cassandra’s lips brushed the top of Rapunzel’s breast, a subtle, almost reverent touch that managed to be incredibly sensual. Rapunzel’s back arched, a soft, involuntary moan escaping her lips. Her fingers, now free, found purchase on Cass’s forearms, gripping tightly, holding on as if she might float away on the tide of sensation.
“I think,” Cassandra whispered, her voice rough with her own rising desire, “that the mural can wait.”

Summary
Arianna loses a daughter, and as if to mock her, another girl arrives at the castle that very day—the product of the guard finding her instead of the princess. But the years pass, and the sadness fades a little, just a little. Grief cannot control life entirely, not when you rule a kingdom. That being said, she does feel some sort of pride and sadness whenever she lays eyes on Cassandra, the girl who was never meant to be here and is nonetheless.
(AKA Arianna watches Cass grow up and barely interacts with her despite the fact that Cass runs around the castle all the time as a kid.)
