"I hadn't noticed," Abigail said, not looking up from her book. "Is it the poetry? Because he talks that way to everyone."
"No, not just that. Passing glances - fetching coffee - opening doors. The fellow seems like he'd lay his cape down over a mud puddle for you if he thought you might get your shoes dirty."
"My shoes probably are dirty," Abigail pointed out.
Magnus didn't address that, but came to rest his chin on top of her head. "I imagine the poor fellow doesn't know he's flirting," he continued. "He doesn't seem like he'd have had much chance before this, I'm afraid."
"Maybe he's just trying to be helpful."
"Is he trailing around after any of the others, asking if they need a blanket perhaps, or offering to fetch a book down from the top shelf when they can't reach it? It's rather sweet, don't you think? Charming, in an awkward sort of way."
"Magnus," Abigail said gently, "you do remember that we're dead, don't you?"
