The gulls were silent this morning, huddled somewhere out of the wind. There was only the creak of his boat and the knock of the waves against its hull. The wind was pulling on him, seemingly from every other direction. Carrying a tune with it, or whistling its faint memory in Henry’s ear. A melody stuck in his head.
At first he had thought it a pipe dream, a figment of his mind.
But then he had overheard Zizkas men at the Dead Man’s Hook.

“If it troubles you, think of it like this,” he offers as he dries Henry’s face. “You represent me, your lord, so you need to look your best. You need to be presentable. You need…” He leaves the towel on Henry’s chest and runs his fingers through his admittedly shaggy hair. “…a haircut. And a shave.” His hand slides down to cup his cheek, his thumb resting on his bottom lip. The cold water lingers, but Henry’s face still burns hot under his touch.
