Summary
968 years after the Ruusan Reformation, Anakin Skywalker was a 9 year old slave on Tatooine and Obi-Wan Kenobi a Jedi Padawan. The Trade Federation made plans to invade Naboo at the behest of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, who had just killed his master, Darth Plagueis. It could have been the start of a significant galactic conflict.
But before they could put that plan into action, colossal creatures appeared from the depths of Wild Space to consume the hydrogen in the stars. Suns started to die one by one and as they did, the planets orbiting them became uninhabitable. Millions of lives were lost.
The Republic set aside their internal disagreements to try to create a weapon to fight the creatures. Five years and many failed attempts later, Paladins were built: mechanical fighters the size of capital ships, powered by kyber crystals, piloted by pairs of Jedi.

Anakin sits Ahsoka down in the cramped, narrow seats on a Republic shuttle while she traces lines in the palms of her own hands, a lighter tangerine-orange than the rest of her, and tries to explain things his Master had explained to him, five years ago. Nothing important. Anakin rarely gets to have important conversations with his Padawan. Just—Force stuff, the kind of stuff that he has to squeeze in between missions and in long, quiet stretches on ships, the things that he had learned while sitting on scratchy carpet and listening to Obi-Wan drone on.
Geonosis looms in the window, getting larger every second. They’ll land within the next five-to-ten minutes, if all goes well.
“The Force, y’know,” he says, his voice raised to be heard over the grumbling of the engines. “The Force is, uh, all one system.”
“What?” says Ahsoka.
In which Anakin wonders if he should Call His Mom About This; heartbeats are matched up; Ahsoka takes a little nap; military rations are generally decided to be terrible; no one loses at counters; historical entertainments are nitpicked; a cup of tea is forgotten; and Obi-Wan has a terrible night's sleep.

Palpatine takes his new apprentice to the Sith homeworld before Order 66, seeking to bind them in a Force Dyad. Surprisingly, the ritual backfires, killing Palpatine and stripping Anakin of his Force abilities. Stranded on Exegol, he lies to the Jedi Council about his Fall, beginning an unlikely exchange of letters with Obi-Wan.

When the Empire rises from the ashes of the Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi, the newly appointed Governor of Naboo, cannot make sense of why the Imperial Inquisition is so interested in his peaceful planet and in him in particular. He hasn't been a Jedi for sixteen years now.

The Force felt heavy with promise the moment Vader woke, as if whispering in his ear that he would achieve his utter victory that day—striking down the rebellion that had plagued his Master for years. He drained himself from his tank, donned his suit with the help of his medical droids, took a mere brief moment to acclimate to the heaviness of being in it, and then made his way to the bridge to discuss the capture of the escaped rebels with Grand Moff Tarkin.
Only… Vader stopped in his tracks the moment he stepped through the door, staring out the viewport with a slight hitch in his respirator as his failing lungs tried to draw in excess air. Outside of that window, there was a perfect view of Alderaan, blue-green with cloud systems swirling peacefully in its atmosphere. Vader couldn’t—how was it that Alderaan still existed? He had watched it be blown into slivers of asteroids not even one full day ago. It made no sense whatsoever.Or, Darth Vader kills Obi-Wan Kenobi on the Death Star, but the Force says “no.”

Summary
He had wanted to die in exile, but even in exile Cardassia still existed. He did not merely want to die after the crash: he wanted to destroy himself, to tear himself apart physically as surely as his grief was ripping him apart within. And the worst of it, the absolute fucking worst of it, was that he could not. Because Julian had saved his life, and Garak would not disrespect his beloved doctor by discarding it. He spent the day of Julian’s funeral drinking, but then he had to stop, to get up the next morning and keep going, and try, unsuccessfully, to resent the memory of the man for making him.
It’s not sustainable, but Garak is an old hand at existing in untenable situations. He lasts over a month before he snaps and does something foolhardy.

Garak refuses to move past the denial stage of grief. It works out very well for everyone.
