Later, Eddie would remember it in slow motion. The way he could feel everyone freeze in place. It was all broken by a single yell.
“It’s gonna fall!”
Eddie wasn’t sure who sent out the warning. As if shocked to life, everyone around him jumped to action, moving themselves and others out of the way.
In reality it was maybe thirty seconds in total. Eddie was still standing in place, frozen. He was unable to tear his gaze away from the building in front of him.
The building that was collapsing.
The building that Buck was inside.

Buck knew coming back from the lawsuit would be difficult and he'd expected it to be rocky with a few curt jokes and some serious groveling to do. He didn't exactly plan on no one even acknowledging him or the team being down right nasty.
He knew they were hurting and that they needed some time to heal but it didn't lessen the sting of rejection. And no matter how hard he tried he knew his efforts where just earning him more heart ache -

Before he could think about it any further, he was hitting Eddie’s contact.
The phone rang and rang, but Eddie never picked up. Fuck, he probably hated Buck. Buck cried a little more at that and left a voicemail.
“Eds–I’m sorry. I know you probably hate me. God, I hate me too. But please call me back.”
Buck has had a rough year. From the ladder truck, to the tsunami, and then the lawsuit... His life was a mess and he felt like he had no one. What other surprises could the universe possibly throw his way? Eddie was pissed and missed his best friend.
Or the fic where Buck gets back from the arbitration hearing and gets a phone call asking him to come to the hospital. What happens when Buck desperately begs Eddie to come to the hospital?
