Summary
To be a Bearer was a rare, precious thing. An expression of Yavanna’s goodwill to her children and a sign of great prosperity. Truly, to be so careless as to obviously sleep with a dwarf – and heaven knew if it had only been with one of them, some of the older folks snickered over their steaming teacups – yes, Bag End would stand empty before long. It would have the entire Shire talking until after Yuletide; talking amongst themselves, of course, among the adults and the worried folks. Not to Mad Baggins. Never to disgraced, shamed Master Baggins who did not step in front of his door until it was to leave, one child on his left arm, one swelling under his dwarven tunic. But the dwarves had to return from Ered Luin eventually. By the time King Thorin of the Lonely Mountain returned with his Queen Sister Dís in tow, Bag End was gathering dust. Past the shock and through the fear, accompanied by what-ifs and the dangers of the road, a chase for the heavily pregnant Bilbo Baggins ensued who was oddly determined to make it to Erebor in time.

Smaug is defeated without the recruitment of a burglar, and several delegations, including one from the Shire, are invited to Thorin's public, official coronation. Bilbo, scribe and bachelor, travels to Erebor with fourteen other Hobbits, embarking on an adventure that will change not only his destiny, but those of many in Middle-earth.
Or, the attempted Hobbit / Pride and Prejudice mashup that nobody asked for. Not to worry, knowledge of the plot of Pride and Prejudice is not necessary to understand this story.
