Summary
These are what I have affectionately dubbed The Iristitials. Each story spotlights a different moment in the first ten years of Iris’s life.
The stories can be read independently, but many details will carry through.
In the same way, these borrow a lot of pre-canon details, characters, and headcanons from BombshellBlondie’s incredible fic “Life Simply Grows Around It.” This fic changed my life and I cannot recommend it enough. You don’t strictly need to have read it first for this series to make sense, but also, do not deprive yourself. Go read it!

Iris’ rapid development was nothing short of both a miracle and a mystery to Herlock Sholmes.
The milestone markers in all of the childcare books were approximations, of course – there was no precise given time for when each motor and cognitive skill would unfold, and it was normal for it to vary with each child. Sholmes had tried to chalk it up to him being extra surprised as a first-time parent… but nonetheless, everything felt so soon.

Summary
In many ways, taking on the role of father has been little more than a pantomime act. A mould he has haphazardly pressed himself into, but rarely has he felt the tight and ill-fitting walls of that mould more than right now, scrabbling for something to say.
Iris must see the conflict on his face. It is the sudden tilt to her head and the concerned worry in her lip that finally pushes the words into his mouth.
“It’s a marvelous story, my dear.” he manages at last, forcing a reassuring smile. It is not a lie. It is marvelous. Sholmes can appreciate good literature when he sees it and this, indeed, has all the hallmarks of a competent novella and would have impressed even if it had not been penned by an eight-year-old’s hand.
Iris shows Sholmes her first manuscript.

Summary
The death of his wife in childbirth leaves Yuujin Mikotoba with severe depression, a mountain of guilt, and a daughter he is ill-equipped to care for. An attempt to put six thousand miles between himself and his grief doesn't work as well as he'd hoped. Maybe repeatedly putting himself in mortal peril alongside the most insufferable man in London will do the trick.
