He shouldn’t care.
Blitzø kept telling himself that, over and over, as he cleaned the blood off the white feathers of Stolas’s face plate.
The excuses about knowing better and having to be more careful with his carnivorous plants stopped. Blitzø didn’t want to care about it, and maybe if he told himself that enough, he’d believe it.
(One night early on, Blitzø gets all the evidence he never needed about how easily Stolas can get hurt. He decides to do something about it.)

Summary
The lights had dimmed hours ago, the janitor had cleaned around them without so much as a glance, and the sound of arrogant, upper-class accents were long since silent, but Blitzø still stood in front of that door, forehead against it and body limp. He had done everything he could to get back in, long after it didn’t matter anymore. He had clawed at it until his hands bled, pounded until his fingers bent and broke, and threw himself against it until his shoulder ached.
.....
When the light was extinguished from his world, Stolas didn’t even know it happened until hours too late. A new star was being born in a far off galaxy, a beautiful soon-to-be red dwarf that Stolas was delighted to watch grow. There were possibilities swirling in the new light, and Stolas was there to record them. He was entranced by this new creation, and it kept him longer than his work normally would…which meant he wasn’t even in Hell when his world shattered.

Would it ever be easy. Blitzø could smell a repressed idiot from a mile off, and the owl might as well have a neon sign with ‘make me your bitch’ flashing over his head. Yeah, that blush and stuttering at nothing more than a hand brush? He’d have that shockingly pretty bird trussed up in no time and then he could get out with the book before the bastard even realized what was up.
Excellent plan, the voice in the back of his mind (perhaps that famed common sense everyone kept complaining he completely lacked) sounded far too much like Moxxie for his liking, Then not only will you be the imp that stole from him, but humiliated him to do it. I’m sure a Great Prince of Hell will be perfectly fine with you keeping his priceless book after that.
(In which Blitzø's plan to get the grimoire is still a gamble, but at least one that's less dumb.)

The silence stretched between them then, thick and awkward. Not because they had nothing to say; because they had too much. Too many questions neither wanted to voice first. Too many unspoken rules from Hell suddenly meaningless here.
Vox finally stood, joints cracking in protest. Annoying. Stupid human body. “Look. All I know is we woke up like this. On Earth. Together. With all our memories and none of our powers. So, congratulations, deer boy, you’re stuck with me.”
Alastor pinched the bridge of his nose, inhaling sharply through his teeth. “Let me get this straight. I have been forcibly deposited into a mortal vessel, next to you, with no warning, no explanation, and no immediate means of escape?”
“That’s the gist,” Vox said.
Alastor stared at him.
Then laughed.
Or Alastor and Vox find themselves trapped in Purgatory with human bodies.

Summary
Having chosen to live as Vox's prisoner, Alastor decides to have some fun trading unnecessary creature comforts (superfluous things like food, water, not having to spend all day in a chair) for sexual favours. Of course, the more he gives the more Vox wants to take, regardless of what he has to trade to get it.
Basically Vox is obsessed with Alastor, and Alastor decides to use that knowledge to his advantage. A sexual relationship develops that threatens everything Vox has worked for - and everything Alastor believes about himself.
