Summary
For Colin, no matter how many countries he visited, how many people he met, how useful he was to the crown, he was haunted by Penelope.
After the first month he started to fill a journal with words that are written about her, for her, hoping to find his way towards understanding and forgiveness (what choice did he truly have, between forgiving her and never seeing her again?). Letters piled up unsent, but he could stop producing them - his words spilling out of him like air.
By the fifth month of his travels, he had started to hallucinate her, catching glimpses of her red hair across a piazza. One night, half-deranged, he trailed the sound of her voice through the streets to find only a dead-end and her absence.
Another night, boots frozen to cobblestones he was trapped under the glare of her bright blue eyes peaking out in shock from under a heavy cloak. A cart toppled behind him, a moment of distraction. When he looked back, the spirit had disappeared.He no longer knew if he was searching for something or fleeing from it. In the seventh month he returned home, and found it was fundamentally changed.
Penelope was gone.

Summary
While on the way to meet Fran and John, Colin and Penelope enjoyed some quality time alone in their carriage, just like the night they got engaged. When the carriage suddenly sopped, the door opened rather quickly, and the couple did not have time to untangle from one another before they heard a loud gasp and were met with a very young version of Penelope, who for a moment stared at them with wide eyes, before another person arrived. It was Colin. A much younger version of Colin.
Or
S4 Polin travels back in time (S1) and they practically scandalised the younger version of them - and with that, all the new shenanigans happen with the entire family meeting the S4 Polin.
