Summary
On paper, Lieutenant Connor Reika is successful; he's one of the youngest to reach his rank at the DPD, with a great solve rate. In reality, Connor is hanging by threads as he struggles against his past, surviving the day only through his (many) unhealthy coping mechanisms.
HK800 is new to the world, it's view of humans consisting only of insults and hatred. When it's assigned to investigate the recent surge in deviancy, it meets Connor, and learns there is more to humans than it thought.
As Connor and HK800 investigate, they grow close, and through their newfound relationship both learn what it is to live.

Summary
When Markus deviates he gets a soulmate tattoo. At first he's just confused; why has his soulmate "been ordered to take him alive" ? But when his soulmate keeps dying only to come back again, Markus gets worried. When they finally meet, Connor promises it was just a glitch, but he finds out it was anything but. Angst and emotions ensue as Markus learns the horrible truth.

Gideon watches him that morning from the corner of his eye. Loading up his coffee with enough sugar to rot, Reid moves through the bullpen like a ghost haunting the house. He’s sweating bullets beneath layers of cotton, his fingers fidgeting with his coffee mug in a way that makes it look like he might drop it if he doesn’t reach his destination soon. He finally puts it down on his desk and slumps into the chair. The actions seem to leave him breathless. Gideon knows these signs. He knows what the unfocused, blow-out pupils mean, he knows what the itching and the sweating mean… but to say it out loud could shatter any illusions Reid was still holding together.

He’d forgotten when he’d added that winking emoticon to Lassie’s name. It must’ve been a while ago. It was some old safety measure so that he would always be able to call Lassie in the case that he got kidnapped again and he could convince his captor to let him call a partner. It worked once with Juliet, but Lassie was more headstrong in cases like those.
On paper, Lassie seemed like the perfect person to call. Shawn was certain that he didn’t care about him enough to lecture him or to try and give him some form of sympathy, and that he would be able to swindle Lassie into getting a ride home.

(or, after a bad case, shawn falls back on some old, self destructive habits, involving a pushy creep and a little too much alcohol, so he calls lassie to save him. lassie comes, of course.)
