He feels so small like this, so breakable even though Enjin knows he isn’t, that he’s all corded muscle and re-fused bone and unshakeable resolve. That he’s so dedicated to his purpose and his team that he refuses to greet death itself. The scars that litter his body are a testament to that, some small and some large, and some that should have been his very last wound. Three strikes and he’s out.
It’s how this should work. If Enjin were a better man. If he didn’t just convince himself that all of FEMA’s warning signs are total bullshit. Who is he to condemn this boy to certain death over something that could be chalked up to a headache and some basic dental? He’s getting rusty. Or, soft. All it takes is a pitiful look and pretty face, and here he is ignoring basic Post-Cataclysm Survival 101.
Enjin pinches at the bridge of his nose. He’s only half convinced by the decision he settles on. It’s a gamble. Lucky for Zanka, it’s one he’s willing to take.
“It’s gettin’ a little packed in here, so you’ll have to bunk with me. That alright?”
“Huh?”Zanka looks up in utter disbelief.
“You heard me — you can stay.”

"Stop." Enjin rasps as he gets up from the bed, reaching out. "Zanka, stop! You’re going to tear the stitches."
"Let them tear!" Zanka snaps, whirling around. He doesn't quite make it, the sudden twist must have hurt because he hisses, doubling over slightly and Enjin is there, a hand at the small of his back, fingers around his wrist. Zanka looks so small like this, half-shrouded in the oversized haori, pale shoulders trembling. "At least then you'd have an actual reason to look at me like I'm falling apart!"
The silence is deafening. For a moment the only sound in the room is Zanka's harsh, uneven breathing, the half growl he makes as he tries to tear away from Enjin's grasp.
"It's not you, kid." Enjin says on an exhale and it feels like shifting the weight of a giant rock upon his shoulders, like his spine nearly breaks from it, too. "It's me. I'm falling apart."
Zanka stops struggling against him.
"And there's no stitches for it."
Or, Zanka's near fatal fight with Jabber forces Enjin to face his feelings.

Enjin was still munching away at the chocolate coated biscuit stick when Zanka slapped his hand away from it and pulled him down by his jacket, snapping the other end of the food with his teeth, to Enjin’s total surprise. “Enjin?” Zanka spoke meekly; the sound of his voice alone was enough to snuff Enjin from his thoughts. Zanka’s grip on him was hesitant, careful, as his smaller fingers wrapped around Enjin’s much larger hand. His thumb brushed over Enjin’s knuckles before he tugged gently, testing the weight in his grasp.
“You can hate me, blame me, whatever you want if we do get caught… but just this once…” Zanka murmured.
He guided Enjin’s rough hand downward, breath hitching as he did, teeth piercing into his lower lip as if bracing himself. Enjin’s palm was warm, heavy in a way that made Zanka’s pulse spike the second it settled against his crotch.
“Touch me,” he whispered, voice barely there, “I… I won’t ask again if you do me this one favor.”
Or,
Stuck in the infirmary for weeks on end, Zanka is unbearably horny and desperate for Enjin’s touch. Fearing their relationship might be exposed to the public eye, Enjin denies him even the simplest of pleasures. Finally, with no way to satisfy his desires, Zanka gives in to his urges and tells Enjin exactly what he wants.
