    Izuku learned that his mother was a liar at four. Monsters did exist. And he was living with one. Did that make him a monster too?

    Tenko thought it was a villain at first. Some small, secret part of him hoped it would get his father. It was a villain. Just not the one he expected. And he was so, so angry. It wasn’t fair.

    All Might threw himself forward as a blackish purple portal writhed, closing around two children. Not fast enough. He was barely able to pluck one of the two, pulling a white haired boy no older than eight into his arms as the portal snapped shut, only just giving him a glimpse of fluffy green hair before it was gone, cutting off the panicked cry of “stay with me!”

    Villains did not have time to mourn the heroes they wished to become. He wasn’t a child anymore. Izuku had work to do.
    Eraserhead would not leave the USJ alive.

    Izuku went through a lot of phases as a kid. Dinosaurs. Quantum physics. Pre-quirk ducks. Being a hero (though that one stuck). And that, combined with an active imagination and few friends had left him with more than a few fond memories of playing pretend during the summer he spent with his father while his mother gained her Villain Response Team certificate.

    At five, he’d been so lonely that he’d concocted an imaginary quirk that let him create fog and even clouds when the hot sun became too oppressive at Dad's summer estate. Sue him, he’d had a meteorology phase too.

    At twelve, he could explain the longing that defined his childhood fantasies.

    At thirteen, he desperately clung to the words his Father whispered into his ears that summer before he had become too busy for his quirkless son.

    But at fourteen, when he awoke panting with One For All crackling at his fingertips, he could not explain the low hanging fog, no clouds, that covered his bedroom.

    Tonight, the chains weigh him down. He looks down at his ankles from where he lays his chin atop his kneecaps, sees the bones in his feed and the jut of his ankles, feels the knobs of his knees against his chin. He’s clad in nothing but a large shirt and shorts, an outfit that makes him feel decidedly small, in a much different way than it does with his father around. As he looks at his ankles, he can almost see the chains that hold him down, drilled into his bones.

    They’re not there, of course.

    The chains aren’t real, he reminds himself. He’s just being dramatic.

    Summary

    Izuku learned at a very young age that love is conditional. Love is a reward for following the rules, love is reserved for those who are worthy of it, for those who are loveable.
    Izuku was not loveable, well at least not according to anyone he'd ever met.
    All he ever wanted to do was help people, to be someone worthy of loving but at 12 years old he's left with nothing and no one. Living on the streets he has to make his own way in life and maybe help some of the people in this community he's found himself in.
    Follow his journey as Izuku skirts the line of the law saving people and maybe even finding someone who thinks he's worth loving.
