After everything that's happened with the pillars and his conflicting emotions about Monkey King, Macaque decides to take a small sabbatical to check on his theater and dojo. He's been away from it for a long while since living on Flower Fruit Mountain and he needs a bit of time to sort out these weird, conflicting, and quite frankly terrifying emotions he has going on towards a particular FFM resident.
He's... Still not sure where he stands with the great sage. So for now, he plans on doing what he does best. Avoiding his problems. He just doesn't expect that on week three of avoiding the issue he would end up adopting a random white furred monkey demon cub. One that looks haunting like it might actually be his with an extra set of ears and everything. But he thinks he would have remembered giving birth to a cub, so that's literally impossible.
But he doesn't mind letting everyone else think that.

Lucifer believes in his daughter's dream and wants more than anything to make her proud, but there's one problem - he doesn't trust Sinners. Charlie thinks that if he just spent more time around them, he would become more sympathetic, and while Lucifer isn't convinced, he's willing to give it a chance for his daughter's sake. Well, he at least starts spending time with one Sinner, anyway. One Sinner who he can't help but be just a little captivated by. And this was probably not what Charlie had in mind when she'd told him to get to know Sinners, but he is learning about his people, so that's what counts, right?
Meanwhile, Lucifer was the last person Vox expected to run into at the club, but he certainly wasn’t about to pass up an opportunity to network with the King of Hell himself. Sure, the guy wasn't known to be the greatest king, but he was still one hell of a connection to have. Though, to be fair, this really wasn’t the kind of connection Vox had been aiming for. But surely Lucifer - the guy with the biggest holier-than-thou attitude Vox had ever met (and that was saying something) - surely he wasn’t actually interested in him like that… right?

Lucifer suddenly remembered an old story a temp Sinner at the hotel had shared. It was called the dick-in-the-can story and it meant exactly what it meant. The Sinner knew it would be a stupid endeavor, but they had decided to do it anyway. The dare wasn't even a tempting offer. It had no positive reward. It just existed. It was on the record. It was putting a hand in the cage, knowing that the animal inside was rabid, except the hand was the dick and the cage was an old Pepsi can. It was the act of doing it because why not. Why not be that one moral of the story to the dick-in-the-can fable.
OR
Canon divergence from both S2E5 and the S2 finale. Following the rally, Lucifer does a last-ditch effort to stop the war against Heaven by...offering his hand in marriage. To Vox. Of all people. Skip forward to post-finale, where Vox is now the lowly tech guy at the Hotel and still, somehow, the devil's spouse.

Summary
After his successful rally, it's brought to Vox's attention that his approval rating is much lower than he thought. Hellborn outnumber Sinners to a significant degree and could easily overwhelm the entire realm should they choose to. The divide between the two groups guarantees that they won't listen to anything the Vee's tell them, and they don't care enough about the threat of Heaven to join the fight. However, they do care about one individual: Their King, Lucifer Morningstar. With the threat of losing to either Heaven or the denizens of Hell, Vox has to change course to get his throne. He just needs to give them a common enemy, someone to bring the rage out of both groups to unite them behind him.
After all, there's more than one way to become a king.
Or: Charlie messes up and desperately wants to fix things. Lucifer suffers from the repercussions of her actions. Vox accidentally becomes obsessed with the man he's trying to manipulate, and Alastor realizes he may actually have feelings. Not that he'll ever admit to them.
