Summary
“They pulled your body out of the quarry.”
It’s a story Mike’s sure Will’s heard many times, but it’s been watered down — rewritten, almost; masked by the exhilaration of the unknown, the riveting supernatural adventure that awaited them. Will doesn’t know the truth — not the full one, at least. The one fogged with cries, splinters in throats, You said he was alive! The air hangs differently now, four years later, and Mike thinks Will can sense it, because he lets out a strained, choked noise.
Death seems to follow him everywhere. It's only natural Mike breaks down about it, late at night, letting a few secrets slip in the process.

But it wasn’t a monster that came out of the trees. It was a person. A boy.
Mike froze.
Then he was spotted, and the boy stopped in his tracks; with skillful movements, he quickly slung the rifle off his shoulder and pointed it at Mike’s chest. Mike raised his hands while trying to keep most of his weight on his left leg.
“Whoa. Hey,” Mike said, his eyes wide as he stared at the tip of the rifle. “Just hold on. I’m not—I’m not going to hurt you.”
Or: A crawl gone wrong left Mike stranded in the Upside Down. Hurt and alone, Mike stumbles upon someone everyone told him was dead.

Summary
There’s nobody in the world that hates Mike Wheeler more than Will Byers, his sworn enemy on and off the ice. Will is determined to sabotage Mike’s career any chance he gets. Hockey and aggression mixes well, but feelings? Those don’t fit in anywhere. Those make things complicated. Especially when your feelings are for your hate-fuck buddy.
Loosely based on Heated Rivalry, but the plot is genuinely not the same at all. It’s more just a hockey au. Read tags for more.

Mike let out a small huff of amusement mixed with something else. "Then hazel."
"Oh," Will squeaked.
