Killing his friend was a goal, but not his ultimate goal, so he couldn’t really say how important it was.
Friend.
Was Fyodor really a friend of his? Afterall, they haven’t seen each other for such a long time and no contact could be maintained when Fyodor was in prison, so could they still be called friends. Another thing was, that most friends didn’t seriously want to kill each other for personal gain. Having Fyodor out of his life would be so much more convenient, he wouldn’t have to think about the other so much if he was dead. Nikolai definitely thought about Fyodor a bit too much.
