But it’s true. David Hollander is normal about hockey. He has a life outside it. He goes to work at the Treasury. He goes on long walks. He volunteers at animal shelters. He puzzles. Well—he works on puzzles? Ilya still is not sure how the verbs work there.
The point is: David Hollander built a life outside of hockey that was fulfilling—that remains fulfilling. This, in its roundabout way, and though Ilya could never admit it, saves Ilya’s life.

Summary
Heated Rivalry fics, a mix of showverse and bookverse but showverse somewhat favored (no shade, I just love the work they did in the adaptation). In my usual fashion, I find sticking to canon as much as possible to be a fun challenge, I try hard with timelines and weird canon details and things, but I ultimately try to serve the characters most of all. I do tend to make people too nice to each other but I try to keep emotions vaguely plausibly-realistic.
Stories aren't in a sequence but I have also, because this is how I am as a person, largely tried to make them in continuity with one another.- Words:

"I get that you're trying to say something that's actually kind of sweet, but I cannot emphasize enough how much it sounds like you were trying to hook up with my fucking mom. Also, my mom doesn't just like you, my mom loves you. You know that."
"Sure, okay, now. But back then? I was very happy to settle for just like. You know how it is with Hollanders. You have to hook up with them for a while before the feelings start to grow."
