“Hey man! How are the crops getting along?” Impulse asked, leaning against the wall to watch him work.
He sighed, standing up and hearing his back pop when he stretched. His comm buzzed with an incoming message. As he unhooked it from his belt, he shrugged. “Slow. It’s always slow at the start- wait, what?”
His screen lit up brightly in the dim base. There were no new messages, but the screen fuzzed and glitched every so often. When he tapped on it, nothing opened.
As he looked to the top of his screen, his heart nearly stopped. His timer, the one connected to his life, was counting down faster than his eyes could track.
