Summary
It couldn't have been his eyes which dilated to drink in as much light as possible from his darkening surroundings. The pupillary response which originated in the very stem of the brain. Absent only in those irrovocably absent themselves. So it couldn't have been the eyes in the head of the body that sits on the edge of the bed in a spare room of the Lloy estate, that allow Occtis to see.
Or: Occtis is a skilled anatomist and necromancer. Neither of these areas of study can explain to him why he is tethered to a dead body that cannot possibly be his own.

Summary
“Um,” Javadi’s voice was choked as she tried to force a smile. Her eyes were bloodshot and filled with tears. “Hey, Santos. I- Can I stay with you? For a night?”
And for the first time in ten months, Trinity considered what being a fourth year medical student before being even twenty-one years old meant. “Yeah. Yeah, come in, come on.”

Summary
“Don’t give me that shit, Robby. Not to me.” Robby grit his teeth and looked to the side.
“Oh, so what? Why do I have to explain myself to you? You get this, you—” Robby sighed. “You’d think you might appreciate some gallows humor, after everything.”
“And you think if you keep joking about it I’m not going to act like it’s real,” Jack said. “But I know gallows and I know humor and I know what I’m seeing right now. Don’t give me shit, Robby.”
As the day shift winds down from the events of the Fourth, Jack notices an increasing pattern of disturbing behavior from Robby. He's well acquainted with the signs; too well acquainted. Something is wrong. And Jack is not losing Robby.

Summary
But Jack is already bouncing to the new beat, dazzled by a rainbow of party lights, and moving closer so Robby can hear him. Robby’s eyes won’t look away, and his feet won’t move. It’s downright cruel that he should look like that, when it doesn’t matter anymore. It’s also a mercy that this ache never struck Robby this viciously in the Pitt, or else it might have frozen him at some crucial life-or-death moment.
Or is this one, right now?

Summary
"Things started to gain momentum near the end of shift change, in that strange pocket of time when chaos loosened its grip just enough for exhaustion to settle in. Robby leaned against the counter beside Jack, shoulder brushing shoulder and neither of them moving away.
“You busy tonight?” Robby asked lightly, eyes on the board instead of Jack.
Too light. Too casual. Too deliberate.
Jack didn’t look at him immediately. He finished signing off a chart and set the pen down carefully. Let silence stretch just long enough to make the question real. Then, calm and simple:
“I’m available.”
Robby went very still. Jack turned then, just slightly, and met his gaze.
Something flickered across Robby’s face. Surprise, relief, fear, something almost like grief, before he covered it with a crooked half smile.
“…Good,” he said quietly."
*****
Or the one where Robby tries to ruin a friendship so it would be easier to disappear, but Jack would never let that happen.
