Summary
Blanc may have had his 'road to Damascus' revelation, but he wasn't blind. He saw the way Father Jud looked at him. Even their first meeting in the church, the way he had sized Blanc up. Although there was the possibility that he had mostly been admiring Blanc's outfit, and who would blame him? Blanc knew he had looked good. [...]
One look from Father Jud was all it took.
Well, one look, and that subtle lip bite that Father Jud had probably assumed Blanc hadn't noticed, since he had not been aware at the time exactly who he was talking to.
Now, Blanc always took care in his appearance. He had been known to joke that he had three first loves because detective work, fashion, and musicals had all been so prevalent since his adolescence. Even when he was relaxing at home, his casual wardrobe was made up of the cream of the crop when it came to designers.
Perhaps Father Jud was concerned for all the vanity Blanc was out there happily committing[.]

Summary
"Why, you're as giddy as a school girl," Blanc told him.
Like he was any better. He was blushing so badly that Jud could feel the heat radiating from Blanc's face.
"Mhm. I'm gonna write our initials in a heart on one of the bathroom stall doors," Jud joked and started giggling again. "Sorry. Sorry, it's just... for almost a year I thought I couldn't be this happy."
Blanc traced Jud's smile lines with his fingers, and Jud was so sure this was it. Blanc would kiss him, and they would cement this bond between them[.]

Summary
None of the men who hired [Jud] said a thing about the cuts and bruises. If anything, it was beneficial in this line of work. They saw it as an okay to get as rough as they liked, because obviously Jud must like it rough.
And rough cost extra.
Never mind that Jud was taking extra long showers when he would arrive at the gym in the morning. His coach never berated him for wasting water, just as he never mentioned how Jud seemed to be even sorer than usual.
[...]
Well, actually, it wasn't any of his business anyway.
[...]
Maybe it circled back around to being his business when Jud had started to become unsteady on his feet, but Jud had it under control. He just had to find the right dosage to manage the pain. Once he figured that out, he would be unstoppable.
First ranked boxer would be his.

Summary
"Well, first off, you have not strayed if so far it's only a distraction," Bishop Langstrom assured him. "You haven't acted on these desires, have you?"
"Well. No."
"I hate to be the one to tell you this, kid, but you're still human." The bishop chuckled, but Jud did not join him. "Alright, well, if the possibility of you breaking your vow is that much of a concern, is there a feasible way for you to distance yourself from this, uh, distraction?"
"That's the problem," Jud said, running his hands down his face. "There are so many ways I could, but I don't want to. I used to think there was nothing I could want more than serving Christ, helping people in situations similar to mine, but God help me. I want him more."

Summary
[Jud] had grown up in the faith. He may have been slacking on attending church, but he had believed. Even when his parents were telling him that there was something wrong with him, because God had made him who he was! Why would he want to change that?
He still believed in a just God. A God that loved him, not despite of who he was, but because of who he was.
Jud turned to prayer.
Now, it didn't solve everything, but it gave him the strength to reach out and get help. He got back on his feet, he made a full recovery [from his top surgery], and he got back into the ring.
And he probably would have spent the rest of a short life in the ring if it weren't for that fateful day he had delivered that killing blow.

Summary
Ed’s foot is pale. Pale like a lady’s nape is pale. Pale like a hip is, or that pleasing curve of flesh where thigh meets buttock. Like something sensitive, something that doesn’t often see the sun, something few people get to set eyes on.
