Knew this from books and movies, teen sitcoms and radio hosts, the few anecdotes that thread their way across the social fabric at Cambridge. Could spread the information on a graphic and say, "yes, this is the year most people drink." It had never been a question he'd asked or wanted to answer. For all his hyperactive thought, his nitpicking and overanalysis, his introspective scrutiny, he'd danced the outskirts of this dilemma by claiming age a hindrance. He'd set the doomsday clock and forgotten to hit snooze.—

He stood like a cactus in a desolate desert. He was once drained of all love, care, and happiness and then he was suddenly soaked in all of it; he felt he could store it beyond the warmth of a hundred suns. He wouldn’t thirst for water for another century, he thought, as long as he knew that he would be showered with love yet again when he waited. So, he waited. He waited for Ronan. He missed Ronan as if he were a missing limb. And God did it hurt. Standing in front of his school, waiting like a cactus ready to soak up the rain.
But a cactus is made by the harshest conditions, and the thorns it sprouts are a sign of that. That’s why he felt himself shrivel up at the sight of his father. The man who made him thirst for love and hid it from him all the same.

He stopped: the princess and even Shiro looked at him with equally alarmed looks, as if he had suddenly grown a second head or started bleeding from his eyes.
He put his hand over the face, and screamed when he saw his damn translucent arm.
The worst thing was to come: as he realized he had become a bad copy of Casper, Lance finally saw his body lying on the ground, and couldn't help the growing panic.

Summary

Meanwhile, Lance battles his insecurities and loneliness and tries to find what he contributes to the team, wishing to have something that made him special like his teammates. But on a rescue mission to a barren planet, they find someone they didn't expect, and when a fight ensues, Lance gets more than he bargained for when he gains something that settles a new path in front of him.
Maybe he should have been more careful with what he wished for.
"This is the thirteenth time already, I can't keep doing this, I'm going mad, I can't stop it, I can't save you!" Lance cried, full out sobbing in the darkness of his room, it was hopeless, he was stuck and nobody could help him, no matter what he did, it was always the same, and he knew he was slowly spiraling into insanity, and the worst part? He couldn't tell anyone, even if he wanted to, he'd tried, he'd nearly choked, he never felt so alone.
