Tony glanced at him. “You know there's already an ice cream flavor named after me?”
The kid shrugged. “I know, but what flavor would you choose?”
Tony gave a short hum. “I'm not sure, kid, maybe vanilla? It goes with everything, after all.” At the sudden silence, Tony took another glance.
“Really?” Peter deadpanned, “Not to be that guy, but, you are anything but vanilla.”
“I thought you said I could choose?”
“Yeah, because I didn't think you were going to choose wrong.”

She always knew Tony was a good person, or she wouldn’t be working for him. She knew what there was underneath, and she became fast friends with Rhodey and heard all about that person that Tony has been trying to hide, the one who he really is. The one that had a security blanket all through college. The one who still drinks a glass of milk in the morning before his coffee. The one who likes to sing in the shower. The one who presses reverent fingers to a photo of his mother every day before he leaves his apartment.
Tony is a mess of contradictions, of thinly veiled worries and fear. Tony puts on a mask and expects everyone to accept it, and most people do. Well, people who don’t know any better. She’s felt strangely like she’s known his heart since the beginning, since the interview, since his eyes went downcast and he cleared his throat and ran his hand through his hair—but she hates the way that sounds. She’s better than that.

OR.... The follow-up Fic to my MCU rewrite is Forged from the Shadows. This is my take on what would have happened differently in Iron Man 2 and the first Avengers movie if Peter had been Tony's biological son. I would highly recommend reading the first fic to understand this one fully.

"Please come in." Miss Potts smiled. She didn't look like someone who was about to sue you for thousands of dollars. Maybe he needed to stop assuming things about people, Peter thought when he discovered with horror Tony Stark, sitting in an expensive rotating chair, turning his back to them, looking at New York, the city expanding for miles and miles.
Under other circumstances, Peter would have loved to meet the man, he realized now that he was sitting in front of the genius, cheeks red with embarrassment. He wished he could ask him questions, he wished he could understand who he was when he wasn't in his 'Tony Stark attitude.' Because Peter was sure, the man was not the narcissistic he showed to the world. Not when he had almost died protecting New York from aliens.
Some people said he was only trying to save his own butt -his father said that- but Peter didn't believe so.Or, Peter never had a good relationship with his family, and probably never would. His father was too mean, too violent, a racist, a drinker, the first to hate mutant people, and never the last to raise his hand on his son. All Peter ever wanted was to get away. So when Tony Stark offers him an internship, Peter jumps on the occasion.
