Of course he knew it was just Uzi. He knows he doesn’t have to expect pain. He knows he won’t have to stomach seeing the gore of his own lifeless, discarded body from the perspective of his core. He knew that when he opens his eyes, he’ll be greeted with the placid lavender hue of Uzi’s room and welcomed with solace and familiarity. When he opens his eyes, he won’t be in the desolate hallway of the cabin fever labs. There won’t be the ineffable smell of meat and metal. There won’t be hurt, and it won’t be Cyn.

Summary
Jax is exhausted. Keeping up his "funny" facade day in and day out is finally taking a toll on him, especially after his huge fight with Pomni, the last person in the circus who gave him the time of day. So when he finds a strange new friend, who offers him a curious way out of his anxious predicament, he takes it - only to start slipping away in front of everyone's eyes.

Zooble stepped inside, closing the door halfway behind them. “You can’t sleep like that, y’know,” they muttered, nudging the side of the bed with their foot. “You’ll mess up your neck, or something.”
Zooble frowned, paused for a moment, then reached down to press the back of their hand to his forehead.
It was far too hot.
Zooble muttered under their breath, “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
