The man starts to cock the hammer of gun, and Alex squeezes his eyes shut, his lower lip trembling almost imperceptibly.
“Stop!” Henry shouts, his voice cracking. “I’ll give you whatever you want, I’ll do anything…just please, don’t hurt him.”
Alex’s eyes fly open, shooting Henry the same incredulous look that he gave him in the hallway, and Henry knows he’s shown too much of his hand, revealed a part of himself that he’d sworn he would take to his grave, but he’s too full of fear and desperation to feel self-conscious about it now. He can deal with the consequences when they get out of this.
If they get out of this.

“It was an invasion of privacy,” Alex says. He swallows. “Did they say what would happen if we say no?”
Ellen’s lips pinch tightly at the corners. “Then they will issue a full denial and Henry will tour the commonwealth himself.”
Alex doesn't hesitate. “Tell them we’ll do it. I’m not gonna let him do this alone."
It would kill him. Henry hates this shit. The public parading, the judgment. Having to do all of that, and deny who he is? Alex at least wants to be there, to hold his hand through it. Even if it's just as a friend.
It might kill Alex to pretend, but that’s a small price to pay to ensure Henry—his beautiful, vibrant, funny-as-hell, brilliant ex-not-quite-boyfriend—isn’t killed instead.

He looks Alex up and down, opens his mouth and closes it again. He glances at his equerry, who gives him a slight nod that Alex doesn’t even try to understand. Henry looks back at Alex and juts his chin out just a little. “Are you comfortable with being touched right now?”
Alex feels himself give Henry a squinty frown as he processes the implications of the question. Surely someone who’s about to kill you wouldn’t ask for permission first. Right? He looks warily at the stuffy security person and Henry’s equerry who are the only people standing still amongst the flurry of movement beyond.
“Only me,” Henry says, drawing his attention back, “Or you can say no.”
Alex shrugs.In the immediate aftermath of cakegate, Alex’s anxiety takes over and he starts to shut down before they even hit the ground. Henry, who’s been halfway in love with him for years and who aches at seeing him so vulnerable, lets go of his snark and polite indifference to help him clean up and calm down with the kindness and love he deserves.

“Hey, sweetheart,” Alex drawls out; he’s careful to move slowly but he leans over the counter anyway, going up on his tiptoes, and lets his lips brush against his cheeks. The blonde hairs tickle his forehead. “And here I was wondering where my favorite person went.”
During his shift at his bar, Out Law'ed, Alex saves him from a handsy flirt by pretending to be boyfriends. They keep it going.

On paper, it made sense. He couldn’t go to the police. The scandal would ruin Drake Industries. Tim didn’t particularly care about that, but his parents did, and he had a vested interest in keeping them happy and out of the country. He couldn’t go to Batman, either. While he was the placeholder Robin, he was going to hold onto the position as long as he could. That left crime, of course. All that to say, Tim now had a full time summer internship (with competitive pay!), helping Red Hood take down Drake Industries’ brand new, highly lucrative drug operation.
