Summary
Canute does whatever he can to keep Thorfinn, though it might cost him everything.
“You want to kill me now.”
The words steal his breath with their truth. Thorfinn looks at him, from under his filthy bangs, eyes piercing and bruised. Something in Canute’s chest flips over at that look, at how wounded he is. He’s broken. He’s been broken from the first moment they met, but now he’s lost even Askeladd to hold his pieces together.
“But if you fight me like this, it’s not fair. You have to wait until I get stronger. Be my guard until then, and I’ll duel you, warrior to warrior.”
Thorfinn’s gaze is unflinching. Canute reaches behind him and pulls the dagger from the folds of his fur-lined cloak. The blade is a part of Thorfinn, like the crown is a part of Canute, now. He hands it over, hilt first.
“Or, you can kill me today. Right now, right here.”

Summary
It started small when they had been forced to huddle for warmth in the wagon. Back then Canute had reciprocated the stray touches without comment and let his guilt and confessions hail down on Willibald later.
But now there was nothing to confess. Canute was already on the path of sin. And no amount of indulging himself in Thorfinn would doom him any more than killing his own father would.

Summary
On Earth for the second time, Kamille and Char are travelling to a rendezvous point with Karaba, trekking through the Tanzanian mountains. Kamille is interested in learning about his seniors' former exploits, Char is interested in trying once again to convince Amuro to join them in space, and Amuro is mostly interested in dodging uncomfortable conversations and out-drinking Char Aznable.
The scene is set sometime before episode 35, "Storm over Kilimanjaro," although with the lightest of actual checks for series continuity.
Nothing other than foul language would rate this fic higher than anything else in series canon, although if you'd like to skip Amuro's PTSD monologue, once Kamille starts getting insistent about hearing some war stories, do a text search to jump to the phrase "Kamille, you need to sleep."
The fic is not Charmuro per se, but I am, so if that's a flavor you dislike, please use discretion.
