“S-sorry. Dozed off.”
He tries to smile back, but his voice has caught in his throat and he has to pivot to the side to cough into his elbow instead. Another wave of fresh sweat prickles across his forehead with the effort of it. Back turned to Rozanov, he can't see his expression, but he imagines it has turned into something like disgust by now. It would make sense at least; Shane definitely sounds disgusting.
___Shane doesn't realize that he's sick in time to cancel a post-game meeting with Ilya. But - much to his surprise - Ilya stays anyway.

“Inquisitor” she said in lieu of a greeting, stepping closer, if only to escape the glare that could have intimidated even the most fearless soldier into shrinking. Their bodies weren’t quite touching yet, not close enough to note the absence of breath passing through lips forged out of metal, or the lack of human warmth that should have been radiating from Inquisitor Lödwyn’s body. Blissfully unaware, Adra reached out to trace her fingers over the golden designs inlaid into the black iron of her armor, spirals and flames, slowly working her way down toward the buckles at her waist.

“Do I ever?” Kai grins at her, all sharp teeth, and digs a bottle out of his pack, which he waves in the air with a little flourish. “Best the Balarok has to offer.”
“Which isn't that good at all” she adds with a quizzically raised eyebrow, thinking back to the Aedyran man in Shantytown who'd lost his eyesight by drinking there. Yet she reaches out to take the bottle.
Kai laughs. “I see you got the gist of it. We still got some of that herbal cure for the eyes, right? Just in case.”

Summary
Shane has spent several minutes stuck in a cycle of covering and uncovering his ears, enjoying the short bursts of relief but still feeling too exposed even in this relative sort of privacy to really give into it, when someone knocks at the door. He freezes with his hands raised midway. His jaw is tight, has been all day, and he knows his teeth will be sensitive and aching for weeks to come. But the voice calling out his name - a soft, questioning “Hollander?” - is familiar, and it unwinds something inside of him just enough so that he can reach over and turn the key inside the lock.
___Sometimes, the world is overwhelming to Shane. Ilya will be always there to calm him down, both before they officially get together and after.

Ilya shrugs, motion almost getting lost in the chills that are still running through him.
“Team doctor said is just a bug. ‘S stupid word for being sick. I thought bug was, like, small animal.”
