“Eddie, you have to go out and explore what’s out there. You can’t just say you love me—you haven't even looked!”
Eddie could’ve told him around Tinder, about how those interesting, handsome guys couldn’t hold a candle to Buck, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he took a slow, deliberate look around the crowded cafe, then turned back to Buck. “Okay. Done.”
Buck frowned, his brow furrowing in confusion. “What?”
“I looked around. I’m done.”
“Eddie, I’m serious. You don’t—”
Eddie cut him off softly. “Buck, I’ve been loving you for years. I didn’t just wake up and decide I like men in the abstract. I realised I love you. I’m not suddenly gonna fall in love with some random dude at a club just because I’ve realised I’m allowed to like men.”
Eddie didn't care about being the first or last. He chose joy.

In which Buck finds himself embroiled in a less than stellar relationship in order to cope with his failures. He deserves everything that's happening to him, surely.
Buck climbed down from the truck, face blank. He'd been put on the sidelines again. Single man on hose duty while Eddie got two kids out of a burning building. When they returned to the firehouse, Bobby didn't bother speaking to him other than the cursory, "You're on cleaning duty tonight."
Buck nodded placidly, and went off to get a mop.

Every time he sees them he relapses. It’s like something he just can’t escape. Phillip and Margaret make him feel a way that nobody else makes him feel. It’s not a good thing. Buck hopes that this time will be different, he hasn't seen them in a long time and he’ll be surrounded by family this time. Maybe for once it’ll be different.
