He collapsed helplessly onto Bobby who was trying to calm him down as he broke down sobbing. Summary
There is something so glaringly not Buck about the scene in front of him. That knot of dread becomes a boulder, plunging into Eddie’s gut and nearly knocking the wind out of him.
“Hey, Chris, wait here a second, would you?” Eddie’s already crossing the threshold.
“But, it’s just Buck-”
“Chris,” Eddie turns around, scrambling to collect the worries that are slipping through his internal defenses like a sieve. He meets Christopher’s gaze, his son no longer a boy but a young man. He doesn’t ask or demand. He begs. “Please. Please just wait.”
It’s probably fine. All a misunderstanding. Eddie is jumping to conclusions. Even at his worst, Buck would never—but if Eddie’s worries are well-founded, he would never forgive himself for letting Chris see what’s inside that house.

Backtrack. Where did that come from?
“Oh, so being your boyfriend is the requirement for being allowed to care about you?” Eddie asks, voice getting louder.
Buck has never before in his life been so unsure of what to say. He just shrugs defiantly, hoping Eddie will not be able to read the subtext in Buck’s eyes, which probably screams What the fuck is happening?!
Eddie gets a determined look on his face and simply says, “Okay, fine then.”
“What?”

“I can’t,” Eddie repeats. He can’t. He cannot. “I’m not.”
“You’re not? Since when?” Chimney frowns. “Who?”
It’s not Eddie’s fault that, at that exact moment, Buck walks in. So it’s not his fault that he opens his mouth and says, “Buck.”
Or, Eddie trips and falls into a lightly fraudulent HR-disclosed "consensual romantic relationship" with his best friend. Really, if you think about it, it's a win-win.

Summary
Before Eddie can even figure out the words to ask, Buck speaks again, always somehow managing to read his mind. “I know you want to ask about it,” he says while picking at the skin around his nails. “You—you wanna know what happened, that’s fair, but…” he sighs. “Not yet. Please.”
Eddie nods, releasing a low, “Of course.” He straightens up in his seat to check the time on the radio. “We have eight hours and forty-seven minutes anyway.”
Buck lets out a small huff of breath at that, but he doesn’t speak again. He turns back to the window. A new soft song plays through the speakers. Eddie wants to turn it off, but he leaves it on. He grips the wheel tighter.
OR: Buck and Eddie embark on the ten-hour trip back home to Los Angeles, and a few truths slip through the cracks
