Summary
"What if I never become a good writer?"
The silence stretched, and Mike braced himself for his response.
“You will.”
Will said it with such certainty that Mike almost believed him.
Mike bit his lip. “But if I don’t?”
"Then you'll still have me." Will's voice was soft, matter-of-fact. Like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I'll always read everything you write."
Mike has a secret hobby: writing anonymously posted fanfiction about a fandom's popular ship from a TV show. It's how he copes with his feelings for Will when he can't put it into words—by putting them into very, very detailed smut instead.
He doesn’t expect this to become the most viral fic on the platform—and even less that his best friend would read it.

Summary
“Do you want me to spell it out?” Mike scoffed, moving closer until they were eye to eye. “Sharing a room with Will, getting all touchy with him, cozying up? Don’t play dumb.”
Richie gaped. “What? You mean being a decent human being?”
Mike's cheeks flushed. “You're obviously…” He struggled, then finally muttered, “…flirting with him.”
Richie choked. “Me? Flirting?” A laugh burst out of him.
It's summer in Hawkins, and Richie wouldn't mind getting to kiss a certain boy—maybe even more—if it weren't for the minor inconvenience of a massive earthquake tearing the town open like a giant gate to hell.
It’s a bit of a turn-off. But he’s nothing if not optimistic.

Summary
“Wow,” Will breathes out, just on this edge of teasing. “You sound very confident about this.”
“Well,” Mike shrugs, swallowing hard in a desperate attempt to soothe his very, very dry mouth, “I don’t know why someone wouldn’t be interested in you.”
“Oh?” Will says, and it’s definitely teasing now, enough for Mike to feel himself turning warm, all down his neck and to the tips of his own – sadly unpatterned – socks. “Someone?”
“Yeah.” Mike nods. Oh, god. This is fine. “In a very arbitrary sense of the word. Just– people. Someone.”
Mike is approximately ninety-eight percent sure that his feelings are requited. That last two percent, however, has really been throwing him for a loop.

(Cuddling with your homie while watching animal planet. this is one of my fav comfort fics)
“Fine,” Will says, then sits up, blankets falling off his shoulders. “I’ll let you go.”
“So generous of you, Will,” Lucas says, already grabbing for his keys. “Mike has an early morning workout with me tomorrow. He’s going to start lifting weights.”
“Mike is doing no such thing,” Mike points out, as Will hops off his bed and Mike does his best to untangle himself from the mess of sheets. It’s become a bit of a running joke to them now, but they both know that Mike is not opening his eyes for good until his last alarm goes off at ten. “Mike is taking advantage of his free morning tomorrow and sleeping.”
“Then Mike can stop complaining about getting winded from going up a single flight of stairs,” Lucas replies, and Mike doesn’t know why they’re having this conversation in the third person, but he’s sure nothing good can possibly come of it.

Summary
Will scowls. “Not funny,” he says for a third time. “Go away.”
Mike drops the stick unceremoniously. It falls to the damp forest floor, tumbling over itself before coming to a stop, splashing a few drops of water onto the hem of Will’s pants. “Okay fine,” Mike says. “I’ll bite. What’s your deal?”
The other fact of the matter is this: tomorrow, Will is going to walk into the Upside Down and not look back. Tomorrow, he is either going to kill Vecna or die trying — and Mike is not going with him.
Even the actual apocalypse had to end sometime, but Will didn’t exactly expect it to happen like this.

Summary
“Yes, the name Will the Wise will certainly be known throughout the land: Protector of the world, saver of his party member’s asses from their hotheaded leader! In fact, his name is so great, allow me to lead everyone in a song for his honor! Oh for he’s-“
“That’s really not necessary, Dustin, but thank you,” Will interrupted, at the same time Mike exclaimed, with cheeks flushed in anger, “Hey! I am not a hot-head!”
---
According to a divine prophecy, Mike and his party have a year to defeat Vecna before the Undying King fulfills his mission of destroying the world and killing everyone on it. So, no pressure.
On top of this, Mike has been given his own prophecy which states that, during the final battle with Vecna, he would meet the person he was destined to fall in love with- His soulmate. Except there was one problem with this:
Mike was sure he had already met his soulmate: His best friend, Will Byers. (Fantasy!AU)

Summary
A certain scene from the movie popped up, causing Will’s mouth to drop open and for his eyes to widen as he soaked in what was on the TV.
Of all the scenes in the movie, Mike had returned The Outsiders paused during the few, brief seconds when Sodapop was getting out of the shower in the background of the shot. Sodapop haphazardly covered himself with a towel, and then wrapped the towel just, like, stupidly low around his hips, his chest still wet and bare from the shower.

3 times that Mike Wheeler doesn’t rewind his rental movie before returning it to Family Video + 1 time that he does.

Summary
It’s winter in Hawkins, and Mike and Will aren’t speaking anymore. Living in Mike’s house, Will tries to be invisible, spending most of his time in the basement.
Then the power goes out — and if there’s one thing he dreads more than facing Mike, it’s the cold.

Bookmarker's Notes
this started my byler obsession. so instead of glazing this fic, i'll just put my fav quotes:
"He knows this face like the back of his hand. It’s the same mop of curls he always used as a reference to practice drawing hair. It’s the same dark eyes that helped him learn about light reflections. It’s the same lips that he used to daydream of when he knew very well it was wrong, but it was the only thing that kept him sane during the roughest times."
---"Love is the most isolating thing in the world for boys like Will.
And Jonathan might’ve been an outsider his whole life, but at the end of the day he gets to hold his girlfriend’s hand in public, he gets Christmas dinners and movie nights, and it doesn’t matter what kind of music he listens to; he will conform to social norms in a way Will never could."
---
"Will watches Mike look at his mouth for several seconds. It makes it hard to breathe, knowing Mike wants this. That he’s wanted it for a while – that Will is the reason Mike was struggling for so long.
Will leans forward to close the gap between them.
“Wait.” Mike pulls back.
Will stares at him. “What?”
“Sorry. I just –“ He falls back onto his back.
“You – don’t want to?”
“No, I do. I just –” He grabs Will’s arm and pulls. Then he’s rolling them over, switching places, and Will doesn’t even have time to register what’s happening – because Mike is already hovering above him, suddenly very close. Will looks up at him, heart stuttering.
Mike places both hands on Will’s jaw and gently tilts his head, so the candlelight catches Will’s face. He feels the warmth of the flame on his skin. Mike’s eyes move over his face, slowly, deliberately.
“I wanna look at you this time,” Mike whispers.
Will’s breath catches.
He stays still, as Mike studies him carefully. Like he’s really seeing him. Every part of him. Like he isn’t afraid of what he might find. And if he’s not afraid – then maybe Will doesn’t have to be either.
Slowly, Will slides his hand to the back of Mike’s neck, just where his hair starts. His skin is warm and soft.
Mike’s breathing is shallow, a little shaky. His fingers brush over Will’s jaw, tracing his face like he did last night – only this time, his eyes follow.
“Are you gonna do it?” Mike asks, voice low.
Will can’t breathe, astonished by how close they are. “Do what?”
“Take what you want.”
What he wants.
What he wants is to kiss Mike breathless. To bring their bodies together until he’s hot, dazed, and gasping. He wants to kiss him for as long as it takes for him to understand that he can. And then, in the morning, he wants to talk and talk and talk until they find a way to make this work."
---
"They look at each other, like they’re recognizing each other – in all the ways they want each other."
---
"And Will still can’t process everything that happened today – but maybe, if he kisses Mike long enough, he’ll understand.
Maybe they’ll find a possible future somewhere in all the places their mouths and bodies meet. A reason why this is worth it, for every reason that it’s not.
And at some point, Will might look inside himself for the familiar guilt, the shame of what they are and what they’re doing.
But Mike is doing it, too – Mike’s kissing him, too, and for the first time in his life, Will shares the guilt. He shares the shame.
And in sharing, it turns into something entirely different."
