Summary
When Frank Langdon sinks to his knees and begs Robby for help, he thinks he can weasel his way out of trouble by manipulating Robby’s bleeding heart.
He expects forgiveness. He expects second chances. He does not expect Robby to flush the drugs, pin him in place, and reveal a side of himself Frank never knew existed.
Trapped between withdrawal and Robby’s unpredictable mercy, Frank discovers just how little he understands the man he’s thrown himself on. And Robby learns how far he’ll go to keep Frank alive.

Summary
There are three statements of life that Langdon knows as absolute fact:
1. Langdon is a straight man. Women are gorgeous, and he has a wife whom he loves very much.
2. The painkillers he uses from the Pitt aren’t the start of a bad habit. He’s not an addict—just a good son recovering from a back injury sustained moving some furniture.
3. His relationship with the medical field is mutualism. He saves countless lives, takes good care of people, but he benefits as well. It keeps his head too busy to think.Robby challenges all those assertions.

Summary
He takes his time changing. Slow, steady, his hands are calming down. Doesn’t feel as much like he’ll shake apart at the seams, like the sutures lines of his skull aren’t about to disconnect. He thinks it might be some sort of shock, because he knows it is unethical, the way Dr. Robby (Dr. Abbot), treats him, and he thinks that something is going to get worse in that car, on that ride, but he can’t say anything. It’d be at least moderately hypocritical, because it isn’t like he’s entirely uninterested, and it’s not like he’s said anything, or asked him to stop, and there’s the large factor of them being in charge of him. Dennis’ word versus theirs.
