As indicated, this is a pre-canon AU which explores the origins of Louis and how he came to be the mayor of a small town named Oakhurst, two hundred years before the events of the SMP take place. It preserves Owen's idyllic memory of the man -- and all of the events that lead up to his eventual demise -- while re-contextualizing the character and his motivations. If you prefer your Louis to be a perfect saint, this one is not for you.
Mature tag is for mentions of past trauma/abuse (veiled). Eventual boys kissing in here somewhere (not explicit).

Summary

Summary
Louis found an illustration of a gorgeous man, he liked it so much that he painted fanart blending the figure with his own image. He told Owen he'd painted what he would've liked to look like, in a perfect version of the world.
200 years later, Owen walks into Oakhurst and sees him again.
Except it isn't Louis, it's Scott, who is very confused and rather unhappy to be hugged so tightly in the middle of this ruined town.Owen has a lot of emotional turmoil, Scott gets forced to deal with it. Over time, things work out for the vampires.

“Well, that's a shame,” said an all too familiar, nasal voice behind him, making him snap his head back to the present. He didn’t hear Scott approach, he never did, not even with his heightened senses, and the smell of Drift’s blood seemed to have masked the subtle perfume that always accompanied his arrival.
“What. What do you want,” Avid said shakily as he looked his way, watching the vampire make slow but confident steps towards him.
Scott’s perfect lips pulled into a small, knowing smile as he looked more closely at the scene before him.
“Well, I came over to get our penultimate target down, but it looks like you took care of that for me. You really are the sweetest,” he mused, and Avid felt like he was on the verge of throwing up.
OR
The vampires kill practically everyone in Oakhurst, saving Avid for last. Also Avid is a werewolf because I said so.

Losing control of your ability was one of the more unforgivable acts. People who are found to have powers are put into programs of training immediately, not everyone did, though. Hell, it was rare to even have a trace of an ability. Avid used to consider himself lucky to be one of the few that possessed such powers. He, Musi, and Elle.
That never should have been the case. Now, Elle was dead, and Musi… God, she’d never seen him once after he was put here now three years ago.

Pyro does a bad thing. Pyro proceeds to have a very bad time.
He feels that ever-hungry voice in the back of his mind rearing its ugly head, calling and crying for retribution, for power, for control, and he can’t help but let it win. He feels himself bite down onto Avid’s partially exposed neck, yanking his shirt and cape down for easier access, and he drinks. Were he looking at Owen, paying attention to him, he would’ve seen an expression of concern and almost panic, but his focus rested solely on the thick, rich vampiric vitae flowing down his throat. Owen attempts to reach out, to pull him away from the paralyzed man, but the guttural growl that escapes him quickly puts an end to that. It tastes odd, almost the slightest bit bitter, but that certainly doesn’t stop him.

Avid didn't know who he was. They tell him he believed in vampires, would shout it from the rooftops when he could, but he doesn't remember that. He can't remember anything, and this person they're describing, he isn't sure he likes it. Still, with chronic pain from a wound in his neck and the growing threat of vampires - who are apparently real, by the way - he'll need to figure out where he stands, so that maybe, hopefully, he can make it out of this alive.

“You talk too much…” Owen’s claws were ripping apart clothes and skin before Avid had so much of a second to breathe, crying out as one dragged itself over his right eye. The pain was too much as he desperately tried to sink further into the corner, to disappear and be back in his room. He was certain he'd be blinded there if he somehow survived this, blood trickling onto his hands as his arse met the ground.
However, a desperate shout and the continued scuffle of vampires filled the cavern but never touched Avid again.
