Summary
Will needs a date to his mom's wedding. Mike volunteers.
“I have an idea,” says Mike.
Ice cubes form in Will’s stomach. “How dangerous is it? Like, should I call Dustin to talk you down, or should I call Nancy to be ready to drive us to the hospital?”
“No,” says Mike, “you can’t tell anyone or it won’t work.”
“Or what won’t work?” Will asks. It’s like picking up a rock you know a spider will be under.
Mike gets up and closes Will’s door. Hopper doesn’t make them keep it open but sometimes Will does anyway, because every now and then lying around alone with Mike on his bed just makes his chest ache too much. If the door is open he can tell himself You can’t do anything right now, someone will see.
Mike leans back against the door. His eyes are lit up with that special maniacal gleam that the Wheelers get right before they do something insane, like when Nancy says, “Then we have to go kill Vecna ourselves,” or whatever. “Take me to the wedding,” says Mike.
“Yeah,” says Will slowly, “you’ll be at the wedding. Obviously.”

“Have you,” Mike starts, but his voice breaks halfway through. He swallows hard, loud enough for Will to hear, and then he tries again. “Have you seen the news?”
Will's heart lurches, and he can feel how his shoulders slump. Of course he’s seen it.
It’s everywhere, on every channel, every headline. Every glowing marquee in the city. People crying in the streets, strangers kissing, rainbow flags hanging from fire escapes. New York is alive tonight in a way it’s never been before. He's been staring out his window, a little in fear, and a little in a kind of freedom that he's never gotten before.
“Yeah,” Will whispers. “I saw.”
or, YAY!!! Gay marriage is now legal in the place they grew up. Mike calls Will the second he hears, and they reconnect.

Will bites his lip and nods, looking down at his shoes again so Richie won't see how hard he's holding back a giddy smile.
Everybody in the party knows everything about him. Maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing to keep a secret from Mike for a little while.
It's kind of exciting. Sneaking in a boy Mike hates.
Will shakes his head, trying to clear Mike from it for the night. Only when he looks back up at Richie, Richie has this conspiratorial smile on his face, like maybe Will isn't the only one eager to piss off Mike Wheeler.
