Ever since Lena was a child, she had always dreamt big dreams. It started with winning the grade school science fair by the 4th grade, then getting a college-level internship during high school. It continued onto taking a dual degree at MIT and graduating top of her class, to pursuing acting right after graduation and then going on to win an Oscar within her first 5 years in the industry.
But, of all the things Lena could possibly think to dream of in her life, a beautiful and genuinely kind person like Kara Danvers was never on her list. She just never thought it was possible.
And it starts with a mistake.

“I’m just…so glad you’re back in my life,” Kara says, wrapping Lena in a hug. Lena winds her own arms around Kara’s middle, tucks her head into the crook of Kara’s neck. “I don’t know what I’d do without you. Especially with Lex and Nyxly on the loose, and this mess with the totems, but even without that, you know?”
“I don’t know what I’d do without you, either.” And maybe it’s the four glasses of wine, but Lena feels suddenly overcome with the truth of that sentiment, and three little words she’s never said to Kara start to claw their way up her throat.
She only realizes she’s opened her mouth as if to speak when Kara prompts her, whispers, “What is it?”
Lena panics.
She can’t, won’t lie and say ‘nothing,’ and her mind scrambles until two words in an unfamiliar tongue come out of her mouth before she can stop them. “El mayarah.”
Kara’s arms tighten around her. “El mayarah, Lena.”

Trying to get his photography career off the ground, James comes up with an idea to do a couples photo shoot...with two complete strangers (this is apparently a recent trend. go google it if you're curious. I couldn't believe it until a 'friend' of mine got dragged into one, hence the inspiration for this story)
He already has one person in mind, his reclusive friend Lena, who seems adamant to stay single forever after a messy split with her ex. And after a lot of convincing from her sister, Kara agrees to participate in the shoot as well. Neither Lena nor Kara expect anything to come of it. It's just a photo shoot, after all. But perhaps James is just as good a matchmaker as he is a photographer...
