“Most babies are born as accidents,” She says suddenly, like she’s decided that Buck has passed, that she can trust him with this.
Buck doesn’t really have an answer because that question hits way to fucking close to home. A year or so ago he would have said, yes, I was an accident, so I know how that goes, but Buck knows better now. Knows that he would almost give anything for that answer to still be yes. Evie’s finger works under the seal to rip it open, a stack of important looking papers dumping out onto the table in front of her.
“Not me,” she says without looking up as she organizes them into a neat stack, “I was engineered.”
And.
And Buck’s pretty fucking sure a giant, cataclysmic hole has ripped right open, dragging him down to the earth’s core where he vaporizes into dust.

Summary
While Chris is gone, Eddie hangs a punching bag on the back porch.
He’s careful about it, making sure to attach the hook to a stud and careful to set the chain at the right height. He knows it’s not the best idea to bring that violence that rages inside of him so close to home, but the urge to strike is so strong, pushing and pushing toward the surface of his skin and he knows exactly where he could find a fight if he wanted to, but it’s such a bad idea that just the thought of that chain-link fence makes him nauseous.
So, he hangs the bag, wraps his knuckles haphazardly, and throws himself against it without a second thought for the damage it might do to his hands. The pain is something that he can feel – it’s physical, it’s allowed. It’s something real.
He doesn’t know how long he stays on his back porch, but when he does go inside, the white tape around his knuckles is red and it stings as he takes it off. For a long time, Eddie stares at the blood welling on his hands and wonders if that’s all he’ll ever be good for – drawing blood and bleeding out.
