“Um,” Kim Dokja mumbles. “Yes ma’am.”
His smart mouth has been rendered inert in this pivotal moment, but he should be glad. Very, very glad. If he said something to ruin the mood right now, he could never forgive himself.
“We—”
Kim Dokja swallows his words as Yoo Joonghyuk’s hands place themselves on the hem of his underwear.
“We’re getting started, Kim Dokja,” she mumbles. Her words reverberate in his ears, echoing once, twice, before he gets the memo.
In front of the most beautiful woman he’s seen, Kim Dokja’s mind turns to mush.

Summary
Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk are beast cultivators in the First Murim after the Star Stream goes online. Kim Dokja flaunts his slippery skills like the koi spirit he is, while Yoo Joonghyuk frequently grooms his ruffled black phoenix feathers from Kim Dokja's disruptive antics. Neither are willing to concede to the annoying chemistry from their escalating interactions. Birds and fish should be natural enemies of each other.
Lee Jihye points out it's spawning season for koi fish. Perhaps Kim Dokja is expressing his interest in Yoo Joonghyuk by irritating him to death?
Yoo Joonghyuk receives an epiphany. Kim Dokja wants to be his Dao companion! But why was he the female koi fish in this equation?
Thus, the black phoenix resolves to seduce Kim Dokja as a vermilion bird would appeal to a mate.

But sometimes, when he budgeted especially carefully, or when walking past the health & beauty aisle was just a little too painful, he would treat himself.

Summary
Unfortunately, thirty minutes into the party, his glass of mojito has nearly run dry, Sooyoung and Sangah aren’t here yet, and somebody slides into the seat next to him. He’s so absorbed in the webnovel he’s reading that he doesn’t even look their way, but then that person clears their throat, catching his attention anyway.
When Dokja does look up, three scenes pop up in his head:
- Han Sooyoung, earlier this week, saying there’s a limit to how much you can run away;
- Han Sooyoung, this morning, saying you’ll regret this; and
- Himself, two years ago in Toronto, saying, I don’t think I can do this anymore, Yoo Joonghyuk.
or: Kim Dokja's convoluted relationship with figure skating and Yoo Joonghyuk told through a love story that spans fourteen years.
