Summary
There she was, back where she had started, without being any poorer for it. On the plane she had no way of knowing her good fortune yet, but when she finally gave up on reading and abandoned her book to look out the window, into the stillness of the blue sky above the clouds, she felt an unexpected surety suffuse her body like the warmth of the sun: there were gains too, amidst the losses.
Earlier that year she would have looked back on that way of thinking and called it naive. Now, surrounded by reminders of who she had been and still was, even, she was more inclined to call it optimistic, or at the very least say ‘naive’ with less derision, thinking with newfound tenderness not of herself at that age but of Akizuki’s filleting gaze, his demands that she treat him with the same derision, for believing and for striving and for trusting her with his dreams. He deserved better than that, was what she had wanted—no, what she had needed to tell him before she left. That which could not go unsaid, the immutable truth underlying it all. It was what she owed him. It was what she owed herself.

The miasma faded. I hefted my spear behind my neck and along my shoulders, stifled the instinctive urge to scoop up the cubes off the pavement right then. Waited you out.
But when you finally touched down on the street and walked your way over to me, with that flowery scent getting stronger the closer you got, there was a second I thought you’d be someone else. Would’ve said so, if I hadn’t realized how stupid it'd have sounded. I've never met another girl who's got magic with that kind of scent.
“Huh,” was what I said instead. “Well, look at you. And here I thought you’d gone and disappeared on us.”
“Evidently not,” you said, all toneless. You stopped at the mouth of the alley and stood there. Staring. Not at me, just in my general direction, and with that stained-glass expression on your face again to boot.
[Nearly everything about Akemi irritates her, and there's a lot that doesn't make any sense, yet Kyoko finds herself trying to get a handle on it all anyway, despite herself.]

He’d jotted down GOOD INSIDE SOURCE FOR HATOGAYA in Sakaeguchi’s favor before he reminded himself that Hatogaya hadn’t even made it past the first round of the regional tournament the year before, so he appended VERY LIMITED UTILITY for the sake of clarification. Below it was what logically followed: HATOGAYA SPY? dutifully written in overthick characters, this particular item underlined with such frequency that the lines had metamorphosed into one, misshapen blot of blue ink. The transcription accurately conveyed the gravity of what was a very real possibility, he decided, and thoughtfully filled in two more lines.
[Abe and Sakaeguchi run into each other at the convenience store and their middle school computer lab—and strike up...an acquaintanceship. Sort of.]

The army moved forward, and the tower shivered. Nobody else seemed to notice. Lettie blinked, hard. For a moment she thought tears had distorted her vision, and touched her face, but it was dry. And the tower shivered, again, violently, an undeniable vibration. Shouts rose from the army, which broke, lost its neat rows of soldiers as they scattered backwards, and great chunks of Babel began to fall.
The roof, fallen in. The walls, clattering downward in a wave as each lost stone knocked loose another. Books, shelves, desks, indeterminate objects blurring in midair, falling like missiles. Her home, her Babel, her tower, falling.
