Summary
It’s like a scene straight out of one of his aunt’s ridiculous movies. The leaves slowly stop blowing around, creating a perfect framing for the guy walking towards him with a bright smile softening his sharp jawline.
His flannel shirt is unbuttoned, leaving absolutely nothing of his muscular (and tattooed) torso to the imagination, and Taerae feels a bit like his tongue is stuck to the roof of his mouth. A guy he’s never seen in his life is on his family’s farm and is having an actual Hallmark movie entrance. It makes Taerae feel almost irritated. The universe is laughing at him, surely.
or: Taerae hates Hallmark movies. Matthew is like one of the characters stepped right off the screen.

Ricky followed the new boy all the way to the library, past the shelves and study tables upstairs, downstairs toward the study rooms and computer labs. Ricky was getting too close and he knew it. Eventually there would be nowhere else to go and he would be forced to say something.
The boy turned a corner.
Ricky turned the same corner twenty seconds later.
He was met with an empty hallway, a dead end.
The witch’s grandson was nowhere to be seen.

"Nothing is wrong with you, Qubing.”
It’s too much. Gyuvin wants him to stop talking. This is only their second session and already Ricky has opened him up and found every tiny little bit of darkness he’s been hoping would go away on its own for months, and he feels too exposed.
“I think it’s a bit too soon for you to make that assessment,” Gyuvin says, and they both know he’s not talking about his body.
“I think I would say that regardless,” Ricky responds, with a bit of an edge to it.
or: Ex-Olympic hopeful Gyuvin attempts to move on with his life with physical therapy. Ricky is his physical therapist.

“I don’t want this to be a big deal, Matthew,” Ricky cuts in, harsher than he intended, and he sighs at the look on Matthew’s face. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. I just don’t want to stress myself out about it when right now it’s just someone I talk to when we’re both awake.”
Both Ricky and Matthew know that he talks to Gyuvin far more than that with the way the two of them update each other all day even if the other is sleeping, but Matthew gives Ricky a break from the interrogation, and Ricky settles into the comfort of his lie.
or: Ricky and Gyuvin meet online during lockdown.

Summary
Ricky always trusts Gyuvin, whether it’s in the moment or from hindsight when he finds that once again, his best friend was right about something. He can’t even begin to guess what’s going on, but Ricky has a feeling deep in his gut that this is a moment where he needs to trust Gyuvin immediately.
So Ricky nods, and Gyuvin relaxes, and before he can really process that Gyuvin’s hand is at the small of his back to pull him close, Ricky is being kissed.
or: Ricky's ex-boyfriend is found dead and Ricky doesn't have an alibi. Gyuvin gives him one.
