Summary
Cassidy holds him close, peppering kisses into his hair.
"Stay with me," she says, and Evan looks up through his hiccups, "come back home to Arizona with me, Ev. My family will love you; I swear."
He stutters, "Cas, I couldn't..."
"Yes, you can," she presses, holding his cold hands up to her face. His fingers find some stray curls in her eyes and twists them around.
He hesitates and looks away.
"Please," she asks, "I-I don't know if I could bear sending you back there, o-or letting you live in some motel for the rest of the summer. It's only three months, Ev."
"Ask first," he ends up saying, "and if they say no, don't beg. Just agree. Deal?"
She nods, quick, and excited and not unlike an overeager dog. "Deal!"
Evan sags back against her, and breaths in deep.
Arizona, huh?
God, how was Evan going to survive that?

Summary
At the moment, Xio could care less about the end of the world if he could keep this feeling engrained in him forever.
Atzi smiles, as if she could read his thoughts. “Y’know, I always thought you were cute.”
His heart stutters, skipping too many beats to be healthy. His face feels aflame, and he tries to register the words she announced. When he looks down at his shoulder her eyes are shut peacefully but he can tell she isn’t asleep.
“What?” he manages to choke out.
One crystal grey eye peaks open and looks at him. Sly like a fox.

Summary
Xochi's hands curled around her waist and sneaked beneath her shirt to drag her warm fingers up and down Niya's cold sides.
Sighing into Xochi's warmth, Niya felt her body finally begin to fully relax. Xochi smiled with every kiss she peppered into Niya's hair.
Niya loved moments like this, where it was just her and Xochi, under the sunlight, close as they could be. There was no overlapping pressure to save someone or appease a god. It was just her and Xo, and Niya wouldn't ask for anything more.

"Huemac, how many times do I have to say I'm--Niya?"
The girl in question stood in his doorframe, arms crossed as she looked at Teo with furrowed brows. "You look like death," she says easily, and walks into the room. Her braids sway behind her, and Teo tries not to be stunned when Aurelio follows her through the doorway.
"What the hell?" He mutters as Aurelio takes the tray from his bedside table and places it outside the door before closing it. He then stands by the end of the bed, a stern look on his face.
She sits on the edge of his bed, and her face morphs into a concerned expression. "Teo, what's up? Your mom told us...a lot."
Aurelio huffs and rubs his thumb into his palm. "She told us you're so depressed you don't even get out of bed anymore, Teo. You don't eat, you hardly sleep. It's concerning, no, it's more than concerning."
Niya cut him a harsh look, and Teo quickly realized that Aurelio was being bad cop and she was good cop.
"We just...they don't know how to help you, Teo. You barely talk to them anymore. So, she thought you might talk to us," Niya explains softly.

"Then get up," Venganza spit, "and try again."
He let go violently, throwing down Xio's chin. "I will not accept a son who can't even find his way in the dark."
Shakily, Xio nodded.
"I'll do better."
"I expect so."
Then he was gone, and Xio was kneeling over to empty the contents of his stomach.
It was mostly water and the small snacks he'd eaten throughout the day. It made his throat burn with acid and tears slipped down his cheeks. His face was red with exertion, and he slumped against the tree, gasping for breath.
And that's where Teo and Niya found him, knees hugged to his chest as he tried to calm his raging heart before continuing on the path.

"NO!" she screams, voice half rawness, half terror. Ladybug snaps her arm forward, trying to fling her yoyo around him, but she's too late. The inky blackness wraps around his limbs, pulling him down, covering his eyes and mouth. He struggles against it, trying to pull away, to grasp some air and call upon his power, but he starts to fade. The last thing he sees is her face, eyes wide in fear, arms outstretched and reaching, teeth bare, screaming for him. And then, like he's drifting off into sleep, everything goes dark.

He wakes, but doesn't open his eyes, his heart is hammering. Was it just a dream? Adrien feels sunlight on his face, on his eyes, and he squints against it. He's laying down on something soft and warm. Then he notices a hand in his hair, brushing it back, occasionally scratching the nape of his neck. Adrien wills his heavy eyes to open a crack. Dark hair, blue eyes, Ladybug? He blinks and focuses on her, no, there's no red here. It's Marinette. She's sitting above him, looking forward, a small smile on her face.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng stands before him, with her smudged makeup and pajamas, getting soaked by the rain.
She is the most amazing girl he’s ever seen.
“I’m Marinette! And I’m Ladybug! And I’m not alone. We, the people of Paris, are going to win!”
When Monarch discovers Ladybug's secret identity, he doesn't hesitate to use it against her, as well as the people she loves. With no choice but to keep being Ladybug, Marinette goes into hiding... And Chat Noir follows close behind.
