"I want this," She says, plainly, "And it's fine if you don't. I understand. But if you're only holding back because you think I'll regret it in the morning…" She trails off, racks her brain for something to soothe Rio's overworking brain with, "Rio, I'm green."

It takes a minute for Rio to answer—brain quite obviously cracking and sparking, but then, "You want this." They say in a way that sounds more like a realization sinking in than a question.

And so Agatha, just to make Rio laugh, tilts her head so she's not speaking into the mattress, "What's a little bondage between friends?"

Rio's never tied anyone up before. For some reason, as their best friend, this means Agatha has to get involved.

    Summary

For a second, Effie allowed herself to imagine a life like this. Her and Haymitch in the morning, enjoying the sunlight creeping in through the window, listening to the birds, basking in the comfort of each other's skin. Every day. No parties to attend. No one to impress. No forced smiles and happy voices. No dead children… Just them, only them. All year.

    Summary

Effie calls the name - Everdeen - and through the haze it registers. Burdock’s girl. The littlest one, her blonde hair in two braids like her mother’s was when we were kids. She can’t be more than twelve or thirteen. She’s projected there on the screen, eyes widened with fear.

As she’s walking up to the podium, there’s a cry - “I volunteer as tribute!” - and it’s the eldest, the one Burdock would show off in the Hob, the one who’s hunted for her family ever since her father died.

Her face is void of expression when she finally mounts the stage. It doesn’t matter. I already know that she’s fierce, she’s brave, she’s good with a bow. But most of all, I know - there’s nothing I can do to save her.

    -

Snippets of Haymitch Abernathy’s experiences in mentoring forty-eight children - forty-six to their deaths, and two into stopping the Reaping sun from ever rising again.
