Summary
The Winter Soldier, fresh out of the Potomac River and vulnerable, is stalked by Rumlow’s team before he can successfully make his escape. Dubbing the monicker Crossbones, Rumlow uses his privileges as Field Handler to collect the Asset with the promise he won't return him to Hydra, which is enough to get the Soldier to go along with it.
Meanwhile, news from America reaches a certain EKO Commander who can't pass up the rare opportunity of the Soldier being loose from his captors. In true dramatic fashion, and self-interest, Zemo decides to up the stakes for his own devices. Too bad Hydra--choking on the ash of their covert empire--isn’t ready to let their cherished attack dog go. Just to add fuel to the fire, having a new unauthorized Sokovian handler in play certainly throws a wrench into everyone's plans.
As for the Asset. Sgt. Barnes. Bucky. James... He just wants to learn who he is after everything, without others' opinions dictating how he's expected to act. But no one-not Rumlow, Steve, the Avengers, and certainly not Helmut-fucking-Zemo make it easy for him.
And Hydra just won't stop sprouting damn heads.

This is such a great one, especially showing the imbalance and how it may affect their relationship and lives. The initial reaction to Zemo slowly morphing into something more so smoothly it’s so natural. I love seeing the other povs, though I will say Zemo and Bucky’s are my favorite. I cannot wait to see what else is coming. :)

This is genuinely one of the best fics I’ve read so far. I wanted to save it, I hope whoever is seeing this bookmark goes and reads this fic. It has the best dynamic I’ve seen of these characters, although I do wish we saw more interactions of Bill and other characters, especially him acclimating to society more, I really really enjoyed bill and fords interactions, as Bill grapples with having feelings and Ford grapples with having feelings for *Bill*. I do think I read it a bit too fast, but I’d love to re read this again sometime; which is why I saved it lol.

Summary
