ORR this idea won’t get outta my damn head so I have to write it out. The brothers leave for something in the hidden city - be it a career or education. But Raph stays behind, failing to realise how much their absence will affect him.

“You gotta go,” he said, lifting Leo up last and shoving him in just as his brothers red slashed face began to pull into a frown. Weirdly smart brain putting together all the pieces. “You gotta go."
He could see the exact second Leo realized what he really meant was ‘You gotta leave me behind’.
Probably unsurprisingly, Leo did not like that.
“No!” Leo hissed, claws scraping over Raphs arms. “No! Don’t leave, don’t go! You can’t!”
Raph grabbed his hands. They were so small and cold, slimy with dirty sewer water.
“Leon!”
Leo froze. His eyes were huge, glassy with tears and fear and he was shaking. Little tremors that rocked him from toes to fingertips. All the bravado and laughter was gone, not a hint of a smile left.
He was scared, Raph realized. He was so scared, and Raph was the only one that could make it better.
“Leon,” Raph said quietly. “I can’t fit.”
“No,” Leo said miserably. Crowded up behind him, Donnie and Mikey were crying, clinging to Leo’s shell and the walls, refusing to let the water wash them down. “You can make it, I know you can—“
Raph shook his head.
“No," he said quietly. "I can’t."

Raph blinks, glancing up at him. The gaping surprise makes his tear-sticky face feel funny.
“The one I just got? Leon, it’s—” Ruined, he can’t bring himself to say. He can’t even bring himself to look at it.
“The coolest thing ever, I know,” his little brother says enthusiastically, pushing the door open the rest of the way and hurrying inside. He snatches the jacket up off the back of the chair it’s resting on and holds it out at arms’ length, admiring the details. “Honestly—can I be honest with you? I didn’t think much of it at first, like, when I saw it in the magazine. But after your modifications?” He whistles low, something he learned to do specifically to annoy Donatello.
“Modifications?” Raph says uncertainly.
“Yeah! DIY style is big, you know! And ripped clothes are in.”

Raph watched as Leo’s finger trailed along the more Mikey appropriate aged movies toward Splinter’s more adult themed ones.
“Leo, what are you doing?” Raph asked suspiciously, voice laced with enough concern that it drew Donnie’s attention away from his phone to glance suspiciously over at his twin.
Leo waved back at Raph in a dismissive manner, carefully reading through the titles before making up his mind and pulling his chosen DVD off the shelf.
Raph stared at the picture on the case with skepticism not at all sure that he liked the image that was making his stomach sink with dread. “Halloween? What’s that about?”
“I thought the title would be obvious, Raph. It’s about Halloween! Trick or treating, wearing costumes and eating candy. What else would it be about?” Leo asked, rolling his eyes in Raph's direction.
Or a movie night right before Halloween doesn't quite go the way Raph planned, now he has to deal with the aftermath of it when it becomes obvious that something is seriously upsetting one of his brothers.
