Summary
Natushi is stuck in a difficult place. Her servants are incompetent, her daughter is a failure, she's having reprehensible thoughts of Eva, and she's loving Krauss less each day. Luckily, she always has Kinzo by her side. That loving father, that man who sees how noble she truly is. Although his body is cold and hard, Kinzo can always comfort her in her time of need. Affirm her, give her the right advice. With Father, everything will be okay in the end.
Just a little longer until Krauss settles their debt, then Kinzo can rest. Krauss is taking a very long time scrounging up those funds, though, what if Natsuhi solved the epitaph and got the gold? What if she herself was granted the headship? Natsuhi could imagine the look on everyone's faces. How Eva would apologize for treating her so cruelly. How everyone would look up to her. How proud Kinzo would be. Natsuhi wouldn't be some borrowed womb, some maidservant anymore. Beloved, respected, acknowledged, full of pride. Just like the Head himself.

“Well, you didn't think that all it gives me are painful visions and hallucinations, did you?” Hallorann snorted, but he couldn't manage a smile. The claw was still hovering over his pulse.
For a moment, there was complete silence. The only sound was the rush of blood in his ears. As if having made up its mind, It blinked, smiling at him again.
“Didn't think,” It murmured after him, almost dreamily, then loosened its grip on his neck, pulling its claws back. The hand on his chest also stopped its relentless pressure, so Hallorann finally took a deep breath, involuntarily glancing at the clown on his hips. "And what else can you do, i wonder, mm? You know, Dickie, you're the first human with, as you call it, a shining, that I've gotten my hands on..."
It moved again, like excited cats can fidget in place when their owner waves a fluffy toy in front of their eyes. Hallorann clenched his teeth. He didn't like the warmth that movement sent through his body.
