Jon has seen Damian injured before. It's nothing new in their line of work. But he also knows that Damian is skilled enough to avoid getting so badly hurt that it ends up showing, especially somewhere as visible as his face.
Damian knows he's a capable fighter, far more skilled than others he's encountered before. He knows he can win a fight without putting all his effort into it. But, maybe—just maybe—, he's tired of trying.

The clock on the nightstand reads 3:17AM, far too early for either of them to be awake, but from how cold the bed felt, Tom theorized that his partner had been up hours before.

Damian had re-examined the feelings that had been locked away over time. He’d briefly tangled with some people who’d made him feel similarly, but the feelings had been fleeting, dissolving just as quickly as they’d built up.
This…thing he felt for his best friend was something much stronger, something that made him want to sacrifice everything for the other boy, to shove down his own everything , just to see the smile on his face. It was electric, as warm and comforting as the sun's rays, but at the same time, terrifying.
His oldest brother said it sounded an awful lot like love.
