Summary
“But… you’re straight.”
Eddie snorts, taking a sip of his beer. “I am well aware of that, Buck.”
“So why do you want to take me on dates?” Buck asks incredulously. “Won’t that make you uncomfortable?”
That makes Eddie sit up straighter, a frown playing on his lips. “I already told you that you being into men changes nothing between us. I meant that.”
“Okay, fine, great. That doesn’t mean you have to start buying me romantic dinners.”
“I don’t have to do anything,” Eddie points out. “I want to. At the very least so that you understand what romance really looks like and don’t settle for a dickwad like Tommy ever again.”
-
OR: After his breakup with Tommy, Buck tells Eddie all the ‘romantic’ things Tommy did for him. Eddie is not impressed and takes matters into his own hands.

Summary
“What do you want to do?” Buck asks. It feels like a safe enough question—something neutral, not too leading.
Eddie’s brain does not, apparently, think so.
“Touch— myself,” Eddie blurts, before his entire face flushes. He presses a thumb into the corner of his eye, nostrils flaring as Buck stares, jaw hanging open.
For a long, horrible moment, neither of them says a word.
OR: fate forces Buck and Eddie’s hands when they get doused with truth serum.

Summary
“So,” Buck says, head spinning. He’s really feeling the alcohol now. They definitely should have eaten something before drinking. “No women.”
Eddie fumbles as he sets the bottle down on his bedside table. “No women.”
“What about men?” Buck blurts, which is—crazy, because again: neither of them are gay.
They’re just two straight guys. Two straight guys in Eddie’s bed, tipsy, and—and Eddie doesn’t want to sleep with women. Which means nothing.
Beside him, Eddie goes preternaturally still. “I would know, if I—you know.”
“Okay.” Buck’s hands twitch at his sides. “I—yeah. Me too.”
Then, very seriously, Eddie turns to look at him. “If I were gay, you would be my first call.”
Warmth blooms in Buck’s chest. Eddie’s so nice to him. “Dude,” he says, touched. “You’d be my first call too.”
Or: a story set in season 2 featuring tequila, Just The Tip, and, finally, a kiss.

Eddie says, desperately, “We weren’t doing anything.”
Christopher looks at Buck. “Were you about to kiss him?”
Buck’s face goes bright red in a way Eddie didn’t know Buck’s face could go. “No!”
Christopher looks at Eddie. “Were you about to let him?”
Eddie’s whole body heats. “No.”

Summary
“Do none of you care about the children? It’s a bachelor auction, and you, my friend, are a bachelor. Abracadabra, put your name on the list.”
“I can’t,” Eddie repeats. He can’t. He cannot. “I’m not.”
“You’re not? Since when?” Chimney frowns. “Who?”
It’s not Eddie’s fault that, at that exact moment, Buck walks in. So it’s not his fault that he opens his mouth and says, “Buck.”
Or, Eddie trips and falls into a lightly fraudulent HR-disclosed "consensual romantic relationship" with his best friend. Really, if you think about it, it's a win-win.

Summary
Oh, alright, cool.
Cool, cool, cool. Neat.
That is a photograph of Eddie Diaz's dick.
It's just there. On the screen. In his hand. In high resolution. His best friend’s dick is in his hand. Well, wait — the photo. The photo of the penis is in his hand. Eddie’s dick isn’t in his hand. That would be absurd.
It’s just a penis. Buck has one of those.
So does Eddie, apparently and it’s… Buck has seen it, absorbed it, and every thought he's ever had has been replaced by a high-pitched tone and the image in front of him, which is — and this is the last coherent observation he'll produce for the foreseeable future —
Big.
Genuinely, impressively big.
Buck closes out of the photo and locks the phone so hard he's surprised it doesn't crack in half.
"Maddie say anything?" Eddie asks.
"Yep," Buck squeaks. Like a mouse. A giant, shocked mouse that has just seen its best friend’s erect dick.
"You okay?"
"Great. Y-yep. So great. I-I'm just really— the sunset was really— it's very— yep."
"It’s yep?"
"Uh-huh. Very yep."

Summary
“What does that feel like?” Eddie asks quietly.
Buck lets out a thin breath. “Like everything’s happening at a distance.”
Eddie doesn’t interrupt.
Buck stares at the blanket in his lap. “Like I know I’m here. I know this is me. I know I’m in this room with you.” He swallows. “But it’s like… there should be more of me in here than there is.”
Jesus.
Eddie looks down at his own hands because if he keeps staring at Buck’s face, he might get up and cross the room and do something neither of them is ready for.

Summary
"I don't think you're supposed to drop life-changing information on a guy with a concussion," Buck hums, voice suddenly deeper—raspier, his eyebrow arching again, with more confidence this time, his gaze briefly dropping to Eddie's lips, just a fraction of a second, but enough for a bolt of heat to make its way down Eddie's spine.
"You don't have a concussion, I was with you at the hospital, dumbass," Eddie shoots back, but he feels his voice do the same shift, further down his throat, raspier, a little bit breathless, volume fading back to a near-whisper. Private.
"You're not supposed to be mean to a kidnapping victim, either," Buck bickers back, their words growing further and further away from their tone as their faces drift closer, Buck's hand leaving Eddie's wrist with a squeeze, settling on his hip instead, warm like a branding iron even through several layers of clothing.
"I just told you I'm in love with you, that's what you call being mean?"

Summary
Buck gave him a look that somehow managed to be fond, exasperated, and completely wrecked all at once. “Eddie.”
Eddie frowned a little. “What?”
Buck stared at him for another beat. “You’re straight.”
Eddie actually laughed, quiet and startled.
“I’m serious,” Buck said, still looking half dazed. “You cannot kiss me like that and then act like you maybe had a suspicion about this. I have spent an extremely long time operating under the impression that you were devastatingly, inconveniently straight.”

“Okay, Buckley, you’re laughing a little too hard at that,” Eddie says, sounding offended. “You don’t think I’d be a good boyfriend?”
“I didn’t say -” Buck tries to defend himself, but Eddie barrels right through it.
“You saying I wouldn’t treat you right?” Eddie stands and puts his hands on his hips, because apparently it’s that serious. “Let me tell you something, Buck, I’d blow your mind.”
When Buck jokingly says he wouldn't date Eddie, Eddie sets out to prove he'd be an amazing boyfriend. Platonically, of course, because they're just best friends. And nothing more.

Summary
“I have questions,” Buck says, with the righteous exhaustion of a man who has been burdened by knowledge. “I have so many questions.”
Eddie’s heart does a weird little hop. “Why.”
Buck turns on his stool, body angling toward Eddie fully. He plants his forearms on the bar like he’s settling in for an all-night stakeout. “Because I need to know who thinks they can just—just swoop in. Who thinks they can buy you. Like you’re—like you’re a—” He gestures, searching for the word. His hand makes a vague circle. “Like you’re a fancy chair.”
Eddie’s mouth twitches. “A fancy chair.”
“Yes!” Buck points at him again, triumphant. “Exactly. Like you’re some kind of artisanal… chair. Handcrafted. Expensive. But beautiful.”

Summary
"Eddie," Buck breathes, almost a sigh as he drops his head, and Eddie can tell he's ready to drop it even if he wants to talk about it because he'll follow him.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asks, leaning closer to Buck, and he glances at him, "I have nowhere else to be, and I know you were just following my lead with this, we can talk about it all if you want," Eddie offers, trying to show him how serious he is about it but Buck just looks skeptical.
"I don't know, man," Buck shakes his head, picking at the label of his beer, clearly wanting to say something but not knowing if it's his place to say it.
“So here's what we're gonna do, the shit we've been through that you keep telling yourself didn't happen to you so you have no right to feel anything about it? You're gonna tell me how you felt about it anyway," Eddie says, turning on his chair so he's facing Buck fully and watching as Buck mirrors his movement, places his beer on the counter, and rubs his thighs before speaking.

“You know, it’s fine if you consider Bobby your dad. I’m sure he would be thrilled to be that for you.”
Buck hums. He would be lying if he never though of Bobby in that way, that man is the closest thing to a parent he has ever had and he owns an actual pair of parents already. Every fight, every hug, every cooking lesson and a word of advice are adding up to hundreds by now and Buck could not imagine where he would be without Bobby’s steady guidance.
“Guess so” he answers and Eddie removes his hand but before he leaves, he hovers between the two rooms.
“And, bud? You are to Chris what Bobby is to you. Just in case that wasn’t clear.”
And then the bastard leaves.

"Though—and I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but since you and Natalia are over with now, I've been wondering…" Maddie pauses, watches Buck make a face like he's bracing to be smacked. "What happened with Eddie?"
Buck stops wincing and just blinks at her for a second. Then he says, "What?"
"You two were dancing around it for so long, and then… what, it just didn't work out? Was the date really that bad?"
She's expecting another wince, or even for him to duck out of the conversation entirely, but instead Buck is staring at her like she's grown a second head. "Maddie. I've never been on a date with Eddie."
