“No,” Arthur just says, and stares at the car. “You can’t be serious. Your car is falling apart.”
Immediately, Merlin's smile disappears. Belatedly, Arthur remembers his promise to Lancelot. To be fair, being nice doesn’t constitute being killed by someone’s excuse for a vehicle. They really can’t blame Arthur for that.
“He’s doing just fine,” Merlin says defensively. “He’s a classic, and he’s meant to be this way. Hello, by the way, nice to meet you. My name is Merlin, so glad to be travelling with you to our mutual friends’ wedding. Arse.”
Or:
Lancelot and Gwen are getting married on the other side of the continent. Merlin is a reckless driver with a car that shouldn't be allowed on the road, and is the single most annoying person one could ever spend five days in a car with. He's also penniless, rude, secretive, has the broadest smile Arthur has ever seen on a person, and is a piano prodigy.
If only Arthur weren't afraid of flying.

“There is nothing wrong with you,” Zuko pauses, and Sokka can feel the look he’s burning into the side of his face not currently muffled with carpet. “Not really. You’re a good guy, funny when you don’t try too hard, and you’re not bad looking.”
Sokka snorts and takes the small kick to his stomach like a champ. “Not bad looking? That’s all you’ve got?”
“You’re hot.” Zuko sits back and pulls his feet onto the couch, focusing back on his movie “Maybe they’re just not the right people. Try expanding your choices from the gym and that stupid app-”
“It’s the number one dating app in the nation!”
“Someone will stick around to the end,” he says it like a promise, but Sokka can’t find his eyes in the dim light of their living room. “In the meantime, you need to shower. You smell like alcohol and desperation.”
“I hate you.”
“No you don’t.”
And Sokka doesn’t, of course.
Or: Sokka has had a lot of dates but they never stick around and he doesn’t know why. Literally everyone else knows why.

Right after Boiling Rock, Zuko found Sokka sprawled in his tent with a bouquet of red roses, and a ring of romantic candles, and one final rose set between his teeth. With the littlest twinge of envy, Zuko realized the entire display was for Suki.
The point is Sokka's flirting is about as subtle as a buffalo yak. To miss it, you’d have to be a complete and utter airhead.

Summary
“It’s May fifth,” Zuko tells him.
“Uh, okay. What about it?”
Zuko shrugs. “You wanted me to remind you when it was May fifth that it is May fifth, and you refused to tell me why.”
Sokka pauses. He does this, sometimes, asking Zuko to be a triple-insurance reminder of important things and dates, but this is an unusually cryptic reminder. Past Sokka knows, though, that Future Sokka is very forgetful, so he’d only be cryptic about something that Future Sokka would remember is extremely important, so important that if he forgot, it would be bad. Is this a batshit way to go about life? Probably, but at least the logic of the practice makes sense to Sokka’s brain.

The one year anniversary of their relationship is fast-approaching, and Sokka is woefully unprepared.

Sokka receives an offer of an arranged marriage from the Northern Water Tribe. On the one hand, accepting would strengthen ties between their tribes. On the other hand, Chief Arnook has suggested Hahn as a potential match, and Hahn sucks. But with the future of the Southern Water Tribe Reconstruction project relying heavily on the good will of the North, Sokka doesn’t know how to say no.
(Katara doesn’t have to deal with this. Katara is dating the Avatar.)
Zuko has a solution. Sokka just wishes he’d realized he was in love with the Fire Lord before he agreed to pretend to date him.
